  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Biggest loser on CF.....

Well, I took a trip to the ER on Friday night.

Kidney Stone number 4. This one is between 2 and 3 mm.

So I had nothing but an I-V, water, juice and vicodin from dinner on Friday up until lunch on Sunday.

I'm sure I lost a pound in there soemwhere. :)

Man that really sucks. Sorry to hear it. Are you still in any pain?

The real pain is from the stone moving through the kidney. Once it drops out, it'll pass pretty un-eventfully.

Honestly, I think that right now it's lodged halfway up McHaggis Jr. and it doesn't hurt unless I apply pressure. Which I did because I wanted to confirm that yes, I ran out of urine with four and a half inches to go (see whut I did thurr?!?!?! 4.5 x 2 = N9NE!!!)

In all seriousness, when it's working it's way through the kidney it's rediculously painful. I've had four nurses (each have had stones and childbirth) tell me they'd take labor pains over stones any day.

Once it's in the bladder area it's not big enough to cause any blinding pain anymore.

There's othere things in the process too though. Usually they give me a couple shots of delaudid, which is stronger than morphine, so I'm usually puking alot when that's wearing off and I try to walk around.

Last time I had a stone I tore my esaphagus just from flexing from the pain, and that lead to me vomiting enough blood (well, blood/water mix) to turn the hospital bathroom into a horror movie set.

fun times.

I need a name for stone # 4 though. Hoping it's out sometime today.

Yep, I've heard about this too, and I can't even imagine what that must be like. You're in my prayers for sure.

I didn't even think to name them until AFTER the third, when my old boss told me his wife named his like hurricanes (he was on #14 at the time).

This would be my first to name.

Oh, it just popped out too. :amen:

We have a 20-400x magnifier at work, so I'll snap a couple pics when I get back to Illinois. No joke man, this one had a hook!

There is no failures in dieting. If you give into a craving, then you give in. When you look at it as a failure, it leads to self frustration and other unhealthy habits.

Again, it is perfectly fine to eat those foods you love You simply must do it in moderation. If you give into the snickers with almonds 1 or 2 times a week, it's still better than doing it daily.

So how does this thing work?

Lesse since I moved up to Seattle (I just moved back to my old town yesterday) I lost 30lbs.

I just (unwillingly) strictly followed my gluten free diet because I get sick and in pain if I don't. And all this stress helped me drop the rest. And the fact that I hardly eat anymore. The cool thing is, I haven't exercised one second. And now after getting treatment for the last two weeks, the med they put me on naturally causes weight loss so I hope to continue this until it's all gone.

I made bad choices yesterday. I went off my diet and ate alot of M&Ms. It's like I sabbotage myself. I lost 7 pounds in the last 2 weeks and I still have a long way to go. I didn't go to the gym either! Today I am back on my diet, don't know if I can get to the gym because my friend is in from out of town and wants to come over and I have plans for tomorrow too.

Question: Does it matter if you can only exercise at night instead of in the morning? Will the results be any different? Anyone know?

If you sleep at good times of the night and are ready to go to sleep (basically, the standard healthy stuff) your body will replenish better and be less likely to be in some sort of starvation mode. Staying up all hours of the night (or causing your body to stay up) lowers good hormones and slows your metabolism.

Exercising at night is going to activate your body, not help it get ready to rest properly.

A lot of diet supplements are related to promoting proper hormone/etc ballance which gets disrupted due to poor sleep schedules (thinking of things like ZMA).

(I say this, but I don't go to sleep before 3 am ever, and oftne stay up until 5 am)

I usually don't get to sleep until midnight (sometimes before) and I get up at 6, so what you're saying basically is that's why I'm fat? :p J/K
Seriously though, are you saying I should take a diet supplement? I usually exercise around 5:30-7 pm. I have occasionally gone to the gym around 9pm but I figured it would be better to exercise late than not to exercise at all. But my usual schedule is 5:30 pm cuz I work during the day. On Saturdays I do go in the morning though and I don't usually go on Sundays.
And BTW wouldn't exercising get your body TIRED so it IS ready to rest?

5:30 is probably far enough away from midnight to be not of concern. The other issue is that if you do cardio in the morning before eating, you are going to be mostly burning fat, while if you do cardio later in the day you will be burning some of the food that you have just eaten.
