  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Biggest loser on CF.....

400 calz on the treadmill.

Not for nothing but if I tread twice a day, we're talking 800+ cals, and if I actually did that 7 days a week, we're talking close to 2 pounds burned BEFORE dietary changes.

hrrrrmmmm.

I was sure that when I was making my vegetable chili last night that I would be posting the recipe.

Then it splashed on me and burned my hand :(

Bad chili!

.....that and it's really, really REALLY tomato-y.

It rained. A lot. No running, but maybe tomorrow.

Hi!

I'm still doing pretty good. Trying to increase my water intake.
I have a hard time getting enough water, too. So, 16 oz a day get an "On the go" pack of flavor added to them. I like the Walmart brand Cherry Limeade flavor pack. I drink those 16 oz a lot faster than the rest, so I'm getting at least 32 oz, if not more, each day.

Okay, for all of us that are math deficient, I found a calculator on the same page

http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/

Thanks Jon!

Thank God for calculators, I didn't even understand the equation jon posted lol. It says my BMR is 1504.5. I still don't know what THAT means lol.
So I have been watching what I eat, eating no sugar or chocolate (I really miss the chocolate) and eating alot of protein, and fruit and veggies.Eating 4 meals a day, but not counting calories. I have lost 7 pounds in the last 2 weeks, which is more than I have lost since January 1st (which is a big fat zero). And my clothes are fitting better. I am still going to the gym 5 days a week and doing 1 hour of cardio on the eliptical each of those days and doing strength training rotating different body parts before doing cardio. So one day I will do legs and abs and cardio, the next day shoulders and back and cardio, and the next day bi, tri, and chest and cardio. There may be hope for me yet! Can anyone explain the BMR to me?

BMR is, roughly, how many calories you would burn if you did no exercise.

For low intensity weight loss + fitness increase, it can be a good idea to set your caloric intake at the level of your BMR/RMR (RMR is the same sort of thing, but by a different standard). Note that the formula is just an estimate based on data, to do the true measurement you would need to spend some hours (a day?) at the doctor's office having different things measured.

Thanks for your quick response Jon. And as far as spending hours at the doctor's office...yeah that ain't gonna happen.:D So what happens if I DO exercise AND eat less than the estimated BMR? Would I lose weight or risk those pesky A1 receptors increasing or ???

As an example, generally when I do cardio I burn ~350 C per 30 minutes. Depending on the strength training, that can be quite a bit more (and mostly protien, you don't want to be starving for protien). So at the rate that I exercise, I would want to consume at least my BMR in calories per day if I was following your exercise regime (and probably more). This would be for max weightloss (which isn't what I am trying to do right now).

One thing is that the 1000 Calorie deficit per day comes out to be about 2 pounds loss per week. If you are losing more than that (other then the first week, as that is mostly water weight) then a doctor should be involved or something is wrong.

Thanks for your help Jon, I kinda sorta think I understand.
When I'm on the eliptical it says I burn about 575 calories. I don't know how much I burn doing the strength training. I do eat alot of protein. I've only recently had success with the new program I'm on, so we'll see how it goes. If anything I don't think I am eating more than 1500 calories and on some days I know I don't even come close to that.

How long do you do strength training? I would make sure that you eat at least 1200 calories per day (as long as you keep to your current exercise regime) and would increase the caloric intake if you continue to lose more than 2 pounds for this coming week.

JM
(Also add 100 calories per 20 minutes beyond 20 minutes that you do strength training to that 1200 calorie minimum, notice that as you lose weight, your BMR will decrease)

My strength training usually takes me about 1/2 an hour or so.
