  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Biggest loser on CF.....

currently not taking a multi vitamin. Looking for a good one for OLDER women. Whenever I take vitamins it seems like I can't get the taste out of my throat the whole day.
No fruit doesn't bother me really, it's just that I bought a whole bunch of fruit that now will probably go to waste. Go figure.
Yesterday I worked out my legs even though my shins were still sore from Pat's Run on Saturday. I tried to do the stair monster instead of the eliptical, but I could only do 12 minutes and I had to stop periodically cuz I could tell my heart rate was out of control. I only burned 107 calories according to the monster, but it's all I could do. I can do an hour on the eliptical so I don't get that. I thought I could at least do 20 min. I hate leg days!

If you can't do it for 20 minutes than it isn't cardio, really. That was probably more similar to high rep low weight weightlifting than cardio.

JM

You weren't there! It WAS cardio from my perspective.

If it was increasing your heart rate so high that you couldn't keep it up for 20 minutes, it probably wasn't cardio by definition.

JM
(should be clear, when I am refering to cardio I am meaning aerobic)

Whatever.....Just so you know....you saying that is very DE-motivating. I worked out as best I could and I feel it in my legs today...you don't want to say it's cardio...that's your opinion...I'm glad you're not my personal trainer.

Not cardio, but a strenuous anaerobic exercise. I am not sure why you are so against Anaerobic exercises. As far as what will make you have a higher metabolism when you aren't exercising, anaerobic does a lot more for you than aerobic. Aerobic burns more calories and is required for a healthy system, anaerobic changes your body so that you burn more calories when you aren't doing anything.

Where do you read that I said I was against anything?
I'm just telling you, that the way I read your posts in repsonse to mine, are discouraging, instead of encouraging. Not saying you meant it that way, but that is the response it gained from me. You never said anything encouraging or referencing Anaerobic exercise. All you said was that it wasn't cardio, but more like high rep low weight weight lifting. And what the definition of cardio is, is engaging in an activity that raises your heart rate for a set amount of time.

My biggest tip for any of you that are trying to lose weight as I am is to just burn more calories than you eat. That's simply how you lose weight. I've pretty much been doing that since I started college last fall and I've dropped 45 lbs. (and counting ) Also, if you're only losing 2-3 lbs a week, that's okay. Any more weight loss that 2-3 lbs a week can be unhealthy.

Well the more that you exercise or get your heart rate up, the faster your metabolism will work. Anything you can do to get your heart rate up will be good for you.

Actually, that isn't true. Raising your heart rate with card will only increase how much burn you have while you are doing cardio and shortly afterwards. To raise your BMR (which is how much you burn when you are doing nothing) you need to do anaerobic exercise and pay attention to what sorts of things you eat (and how you eat).

...and how often you eat.

The time between meals is what slows your metabolism. If you're not eating frequently enough, your body kicks into survival mode and slows down the burning.

Checkin' in. I know I don't do it every day, but hey...whatever.

We're not walking at work as much now that it's been "hot" outside. Don't want to get all sweaty and smelly while still at work. heh.

Watching calories, eating more times a day, and just generally trying to be healthy.

YAY!

You could walk right after work when it's a bit cooler.

Yeah, I wish. I have to hurry home to cook dinner for the Z man.

I'm trying to work some more walking in after dinner, though.

YAY!

Well, you're doing better than I.

Maybe you and Z could walk together.

I asked him. It's a no go. He's so skinny, he's afraid he'll drop more weight if he walks. Hardheaded men. grr.
