  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I think what we have proven here is that any thread, any topic, any idea at all, atheists and scientists (who claim a false humility) will use it to espouse their wayward misunderstandings of Scripture, over against any actual understanding of same.

Does this hypothesis need further testing or is it ready to be named AV's Law?

Scientists do have humility as a rule. But when they face extreme silliness they may get a bit snooty.

I tell you what, try not to be so silly and we will try to have a bit more humility.

So according to that the Ten engraved on the stone tablets were the same ten he brought down the first time from the mountain.

That's right ... what's the problem?

I've said this before, but it bears repeating:

Given enough time, I believe that atheists and scientists here will eventually reduce every single jot and tittle in the Bible to venting & ridicule.

Unless of course, they want money from us; then they're gentle as lambs, aren't they?

There is no problem. Those are the commandments of Exodus 34:

14" Do not worship any other god, for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God.

15 “Be careful not to make a treaty with those who live in the land; for when they prostitute themselves to their gods and sacrifice to them, they will invite you and you will eat their sacrifices. 16 And when you choose some of their daughters as wives for your sons and those daughters prostitute themselves to their gods, they will lead your sons to do the same.

17 “Do not make any idols.

18 “Celebrate the Festival of Unleavened Bread. For seven days eat bread made without yeast, as I commanded you. Do this at the appointed time in the month of Aviv, for in that month you came out of Egypt.

19 “The first offspring of every womb belongs to me, including all the firstborn males of your livestock, whether from herd or flock. 20 Redeem the firstborn donkey with a lamb, but if you do not redeem it, break its neck. Redeem all your firstborn sons.

“No one is to appear before me empty-handed.

21 “Six days you shall labor, but on the seventh day you shall rest; even during the plowing season and harvest you must rest.

22 “Celebrate the Festival of Weeks with the firstfruits of the wheat harvest, and the Festival of Ingathering at the turn of the year. 23 Three times a year all your men are to appear before the Sovereign Lord, the God of Israel. 24 I will drive out nations before you and enlarge your territory, and no one will covet your land when you go up three times each year to appear before the Lord your God.

25 “Do not offer the blood of a sacrifice to me along with anything containing yeast, and do not let any of the sacrifice from the Passover Festival remain until morning.

26 “Bring the best of the firstfruits of your soil to the house of the Lord your God.

“Do not cook a young goat in its mother’s milk."

Those are not the same ten commandments that were listed on this thread earlier.

As I've said before, ridiculous things are worthy of ridicule. Given enough time, religious people will say just about every ridiculous thing.

You will have your opportunity to be vindicated. If your reading of Scripture is correct, and those are what was carved into stone, carried down the mount by Moses, and placed into the Ark of the Covenant per the story, Jews will certainly know and confirm this.

I don't have to be vindicated by Jews, it is in your Bible too.

You don't have to trust me, you can read Exodus 34 for yourself. I won't even link it.

You're missing the point entirely. OT is not something designed for us to read and figure out for ourselves. All it does is gives a brief mention of a specific thing, which is recorded in detail elsewhere. This very issue here is enough to clue you in to that. Rabbis are the ones who know how to connect the dots of the OT with the substance of how it was practiced throughout history. The Priests that ministered at the Ark of the Covenant would be the ones to know what was on those tablets, and all of this info still exists.

This one issue should be about as simple as such things get, with full consensus.

I disagree. The Bible is very clear in these verses. Nothing poetic, no allegories. Christians are supposed to understand the Old Testament themselves to support their beliefs. If you went to Jews for advice then you would ultimately throw out the concept of Jesus himself since they don't believe that he fulfilled any significant prophecies.

This whole 10 Commandments thing is new to me, as well. It seems very clear to me, and I find the Christian "explanations" on this thread lacking. I'm going to look into this further, and try and find some scholarly opinions on it.

These are JEWISH SCRIPTURES we are talking about. Don't be intentionally dense, ok? It's not a question of poetic allegory, its a question of WHAT WAS IN THE ARK. Obviously neither one of us has seen it as it went AWOL some time back.

Since there are differences of opinion, this is rock-slid confirmation. I thought scientists liked that sort of thing? Not the "make it up as you go I know I'm right me me me" song and dance.

What went in the Ark is historical. It does not take that deep of a study to find out. Some parts of the Bible are difficult to interpret. This is not one of those parts.

And again, Christians are supposed to know enough of the Old Testament so that they can interpret it for themselves. Seriously, you want to rely on Jewish interpretation for various prophesies that supposedly relate to Christ? They are O.T. prophecies after all. If you are going to rely on only Jewish interpretation then the logical conclusion will be to reject the New Testament.

What is questionable about that particular chapter? It seems awfully clearly laid out to me.
