Awesome! I just recently moved into an apt. after living in the dorms. I finally feel like I'm on my own!

It's difficult to adjust to living alone and it can get lonely, so make sure you have friends over and have family come to visit you so you don't get lonely :)

Other than that enjoy your new life in your apt. and don't sweat the small stuff. God WILL provide for everything you need and will give you the strength and courage you need to accomplish anything, so trust in Him! God Bless!

Congrats...I'm in the same boat this coming September.

I've never lived on my own, and what's even cooler is that I've lived in the exact same house for the twenty years of my life.

It'll be hard for the first few days, maybe a couple of weeks, but I wouldn't worry too much about how you'll adjust - you'll be fine. A lot of it of course depends on the environment around you, and how stable you are as an individual living alone.

I assume that you are moving for college, like myself, so living on your own will be a big benefit in terms of studying and learning without distractions. Just remember that God is on your side, he'll never leave you nor forsake you. If you follow his will and allow him to work in your life everything will be alright.

congrats!

do you have roommates? things change with roommates! went from having one to none to 3. lol. crazy.

one thing i found was bemusement... suddenly what had always seemed far off, grown up, was here and i was doing it, yet i didn't feel so like i was one of those grown ups i had watched from afar.

and still do.

I'm moving into an apartment and away from my parents (but still pretty close to them).

Any advice? Words of wisdom?

Advice you say? Words of wisdom? :D

-Don't attempt to live off of pizza and coke. Eat some fruits and veggies so you don't get scurvy. (Yes, people still get it)

-Leftovers are great! Don't be afraid of leftovers.

-Pay your bills. On time. - No point in getting bad credit just because you forgot to pay something.

-Pay attention to the stove. Burnt noodles aren't very appetizing.

-Have a few tools on hand - hammer, screwdrivers, pliers, duct tape :) And know how to use them. You never know when you might need to do a quick repair.

-Get acquainted with things like thermostats, water shut-off valves under the sink, breaker boxes, etc.

I won't be moving for college, but it will get me a tad bit closer to a potential job. And nooooo I'm not gonna have roommates! I kinda stick to myself a bit. I think it may be difficult because I've always been one to cling to family. That may be why our relationship isn't s great. I cling to them too much. That, at least, may improve.

Don't attempt to live off of pizza and coke? Is pizza and A&W Root Beer any better? :D :D :D

I've spent the afternoon with my future landlady sorting out the contract to my lovely new bachelor pad (can I call it a bachelor pad if there's a girl living there?) We'll be moving in in September, in time for the start of term :)

What you need to do is get yourself a couple of nostalgic posters of your favourite childhood tv shows, and a set of those magnetic words for your fridge- no young adult's home is complete without them!

It will be fun. I loved moving out of my parents house. Don't get me wrong I still go see them a lot and call them too but it was nice to have my own place. It might be hard for the first couple months or so but after that it gets easier.

Well... maybe you could try spiking the root beer with crushed up vitamin C tablets :D

Well, the power went off, and I was the only one at home, and being the inquisitive person that I am, I couldn't just sit there and do nothing about it. But when I felt a little pop (really it wasn't any bigger than a static shock), I decided it was time to get on outta there while the getting outta there was good.

I see. When the power goes out around here, the problem usually isn't in the house. It's usually miles away where someone has run into a power line with a grain auger or where lightning has taken one out or something like that. Head for the breaker box if you plug something in and suddenly the lights and/or plugins in that room go dead but everything else in the house is still working :)

*Also, have a fire extinguisher...maybe two...on hand...if there are extinguishers in the building, get to know where they are.

Speaking of things you should get to know, make sure you have learned the locations of your emergency exits. :)

Other than that, congrats, and may I come over for pizza and root beer? :p
Just kidding. LOL!

Yeah, the power only went out in part of the house. That's how I knew it was a fuse thing.
