  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Big Contradictions?

the first day of creation was Sunday October 23 4004 BC

* Adam and Eve were driven from Eden on Monday November 10 4004 BC
This doesn't work. If October 23 was a Sunday, November 10 must have been a Thursday.

If you think that myth and allegory can't be true then you had better stick with the way you are interpreting the Bible now.
I looked up the definition of "myth" and, I admit, I never thought it would include:
a traditional or legendary story, usually concerning some being or hero or event, with or without a determinable basis of fact or a natural explanation, especially one that is concerned with deities or demigods and explains some practice, rite, or phenomenon of nature.

Anytime I, or any other person that I have talked to, states "that's a myth", I take it as this definition:

"a widely held but false belief or idea."

So, under that first definition, the Bible would fit the Myth idea.

When I am talking about anything that is true, I never use the term "Myth".

It's just a fact. Why should it be a problem for you?
Like I said, maybe you missed it... truth is not determined by democratic process.

Also, I could care less if I am in the minority as:
Matthew 7:13-14King James Version (KJV)

13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:

14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

Good. I belong to a Christian denomination which is distinctly in the minority myself, and it doesn't bother me a bit.

But my point is, that the most important reason I object to YECism is the condemnatory and derisive attitude many YECs have towards other Christians. I hope that learning that you are in the minority and learning what other Christians believe "myth" means--and perhaps a few other things--will start to give you the idea that it is possible for Christians to believe in salvation through the real death and physical resurrection of Christ, and in the other tenets of the Nicene Creed without believing what you do about the Bible, just they do today throughout the world and have done for millennia.

The mistake is for men and women, who are bathed in the academia of this world of man's wisdom, who proclaim to be followers of Christ, to object to the fact that God told us how He did it, when He did it, why He did it and what happened afterward.

Rational people understand that pushing an interpretation of the Bible that directly contradicts the facts only disproves the Bible.

All will be revealed, all that is hidden will be seen.... I am 100% certain that the Bible will stand firm and true.

Then why use an interpretation of the Bible that has been shown to be false?
