Biden staffers met with Special Counsel Jack Smith’s aides before Trump indictment

Aug. 26, 2023

The White House counsel’s office met with a top aide to Special Counsel Jack Smith just weeks before he brought charges against former President Trump for allegedly mishandling classified documents — raising serious concerns about coordinated legal efforts aimed at President Biden’s likely opponent in 2024.

Jay Bratt, who joined the special counsel team in November 2022, shortly after it was formed, took a meeting in the White House on March 31, 2023, with Caroline Saba, deputy chief of staff for the White House counsel’s office, White House visitor logs show.

They were joined in the 10 a.m. meeting by Danielle Ray, an FBI agent in the Washington field office.

Nine weeks later, Trump was indicted by Smith’s office on June 8, 2023.

Bratt, 63, also met with Saba at the White House in November 2021, when Trump was mired in negotiations with the National Archives, who were demanding the return of presidential records from his Mar-a-Lago estate before a formal investigation had not yet been opened.

Special counsel (Jack Smith) is a Biden servant, a biased political hack

Most of the White House staff are career staff who work across administrations. Bratt was apparently interviewing one of them, somebody that had worked for Obama, Biden and Trump. Saba was the person from the Counsel's office who handled the logistics of that. It's not evidence of anything untoward.
Special counsel (Jack Smith) is a Biden servant
I mean in the sense that all members of the executive branch are yes. But he was out of government for several years before being appointed to his SC role.
, a biased political hack
He actually has a reputation for being apolitical. And when he was in charge of the Public Integrity Section he went after both Democrats and Republicans. Not really the profile of somebody guided by political guidance. And he's anything but a hack. He's considered to be a very skilled attorney. And as another hit on the claim he's a political hack, he's never never served in a policy role except for when he was acting USA for Tennessee. His entire career was civil service.
, from the "Southern District In New York"
Yeah, this is flat out inaccurate. He served in the Eastern District, though I will say that he did serve in Manhattan, which is the territory that would be part of the Southern District, but he did it as a ADA not a AUSA. But even if he did serve in the Southern District, that doesn't mean anything. It's one of the busiest and prestigious districts in the country. Lawyers of all stripes want to work there.

Smith was working at the International Court in the Hague before this position. He was not even in the United States during the Trump years--he was in Amsterdam.

More than anyone else, he had distance and objectivity, away from the daily political events in the U.S., particularly during COVID.

He actually was working for the DoJ during the early Trump admin. He was the acting USA for one of the districts in TN, I think the middle district.

Just some questions here.
Weren't Trump himself and Trump officials claiming presidential immunity?
Wouldn't it be up to the current president to imply that immunity to past presidents?
Would that mean meeting with that current presidents white house counsel to concur that claim?
What about the current admin knowing exactly what war plans or nuke secrets were being stored in the bathroom?
What about which classified info was being blabbed out like a schoolgirl wanting to be in the "in crowd" to anyone who would listen?
Would the current white house counsel be interested in that breach?

Yes, all speculation, yet no different than the speculation offered in the OP.
The Mar A Largo case is rather cut and dry.
The OP inference pails to the actual bad choices and defiance of Trump to simply just do the right thing, because in reality the exposing of top secrets is something the current white house counsel would need to know.

But you’re still going to stand by your contention that JS is a biased political hack?
