  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Biden might be in trouble.

Hank, it seems that everybody on the left side of politics insists that he's the world's greatest liar, so why would you conclude that he was NOT just shooting his mouth off in those instances you have in mind??

It's true, but once the decision has been made to denounce anything and everything that the President does, simply for partisan political reasons, this is the inevitable result.

Yes but here's the thing that concerns me. Many have the word Christian on their file here and I'm not saying they're not.....but oh how people absolutely think they've got everything all figured out about someone's character not considering what they're basing their view on could be the hatred of others and how its skewed information or fragmented by people who have an agenda.

And we KNOW that's what they're wanting to do....no speculation there. Now how absolutely amazing that an individual can't even have an opinion that could be wrong. And there could be evidence that she's right....that in her case it did help her. THEY DON'T know for a fact that it didn't. And if she sincerely believes it did than what was she supposed to do? Shut up about it?

I think her speaking forth demonstrated she understands what it is to be civilized. If everything in her mind was telling her the drug in question was a game changer how could she live with herself in not wanting it known...AT LEAST her story. People with conscious would feel crushed with guilt not telling their story. Maybe people without it would rather let people die?

Trump didn’t admit on tape to raping anyone, but he has been accused on multiple occasions of raping women.

Incidentally where is Biden being accused of rape? I understood the accusation was sexual assault?

Of course. And how sad it is that we as a nation, although not everyone in it, have come to this.

It's the same sorry mindset that causes people to refuse to even be formally polite when an officeholder comes around. Or they feel an obligation to get an ordinary person fired from his job or disciplined by their school simply for holding a very conventional political preference was overheard in a conversation. The examples are numerous.

I voted Third Party in the 2016 election because I didn't want to vote for either Trump or Clinton.
Sadly, very few people have the integrity to do that.

Then we should have the same trial that Kavanaugh had.
Kavanaugh didn't have a trial. There wasn't enough evidence to keep him from being appointed to the SCOTUS, which is a lifetime appointment.

Elizabeth Warren had no problem going after Bloomberg about accusations against him but she never went after Biden. Why do you think that is?

My question is where is the #MeToo movement on this. The stark difference in reaction between Kavanaugh and Biden is amazing. By this time in the accusations about Kavanaugh, he had to hire full time security for him and his family, he was being protested almost on stop and it was part of the nightly news on an hourly basis. Biden? nothing that I am seeing

Why?

so you don't think that the far right supreme court judges won't try to overturn first chance they get gay marriage and roe v wade?

Judges cannot bring cases - attorney's do. In October, the conservative will have had the majority in the court for two years. Has there been a case yet?

Biden is not about to be placed into a lifetime appointment.

The news is out there. The US public will make of it what they will ...

Biden is trying to ascend to the highest office in the Nation - one that makes Supreme Court appointments - there should be a higher standard, not lessor

The news is out there. The US public will make of it what they will ...

My question is where is the #MeToo people? Where are the protesters at his home, going after his wife and family? You know, the things that make 99% of the news nowadays?

Why the difference?

That role gets reassessed every four years.

Kavanaugh's accusation had some holes, ... and Kavanaugh did his share of lying in the proceedings.

Biden's accusation has inconsistensies, ... where his accuser has told a different story at different times.

Why do you care? Where was your righteous indignation when Trump was accused of far worse things?

Serious, you want my opinion? I think our government is corrupt and all those running for president have been bought. I think that JFK's assassination was clear as day that our government has been usurped by an evil cancer. Nixon admitted as much when he said this is why he had to resign (he couldn't let Hunt take the fall because "of the whole JFK business"). Hunt has since confessed to being involved and named many others who were also involved.

I think the whole WMD's excuse for the first Gulf war was bogus. The biggest oil reserves in the world second only to Saudi Arabia which were poisoned (dirty bombs everywhere in the event of invasion) were in Iraq. We wanted to control the oil field and were willing to make up a phony reason to attack, just like Jezebel in getting the vineyard Ahab wanted.

I think that 911 was an inside job. In my opinion the evidence is overwhelming that it was not the so called 12 terrorists, and it is overwhelming that the 2 airplanes did not bring down 3 steel framed skyscrapers at the World Trade Center (Bldgs 1, 2, and 7). To me it is just like what Jezebel did in getting the vineyard that Ahab wanted. Using 911 as an excuse to seize Iraqi oilfields and put in pipelines for gas fields around the Caspian sea. It also got a blank check for the upgrade to the military Cheney was talking about a year earlier.

I think the mortgage crisis was the most blatant proof of our government being bought. The ones running the investment banks that created the CDOs and mortgage backed securities were well aware of how corrupt this was. They knew they were toxic. They knew they would fail. So why do something that came so close to completely bankrupting them? First, they got big fat bonus checks every year, the really big ones were a hundred million or more a year. Second, when they did finally go bust they knew they would not go to jail nor would they lose their jobs, nor would they go bankrupt because the politicians that were bought by them would bail them out. The losers would be the American taxpayer.

These are merely political opinions (as to right or wrong) ... and are the baggage of every politician.

You think selling weapons to nations when you know they have human rights violations and might use those weapons to repress their own people is just a political issue?

Certainly it has been the baggage of recent regimes from both parties, but I do not think it is devoid of moral content.

Why don’t you care??

I do care. I think having one nominee for president who shows such a careless disregard for women’s personal space is bad enough, even without the sexual assault accusation (which I think needs to be fully investigated) is one too many. The problem is that there isn’t just one, both have these accusations, and those against Trump are not only far more serious but also somewhat backed up by his own words on that tape.

The problem is though that it’s a two horse race and one of them is going to win, so everyone finds themselves in the nasty position of yet again choosing between the lesser of two evils. I just hope this time the lesser actually wins.

This woman's story has changed drastically over time. It's possible that her current story is accurate and it is possible that it has changed to reflect her own political circumstances.
I’m sorry to see you use this.
It looks verbatim to what I saw during the Kavanaugh hearings.

Currently I think the progressives are the most likely to split. Because the party is not on board with their ideas. If you continually vote for a party that doesn't represent your views, then it doesn't matter whether that party wins. It still doesn't represent your views.

If you never start a party that does have your views, you never have a chance for your views to be represented.

But I am not sure it would wind up being as much about left and right as we think. There is strong anti-establishment sentiment on both sides of the aisle right now, that may have more in common than we imagine.

Ford didn't change her story ...
No, I think you are right about that. On the other hand, she had it demolished by the facts that came out, even while she was sticking to her story.

Her testimony, by the way, was given under oath and she certainly knew what that might mean if she decided to change it.
