While on the topic of Bible Contradictions, could someone please explain the following to to me:

1. "an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth" vs "turn the other cheek", why promote two completely different options instead of one?

This is Jewish law. Nowhere in the ten commandments do you find this. This is where you find humankind changing the Word to conform to OUR perceptions, not HIS.

2. Why aren't cats mentioned in the Bible even though the ancient Egyptians worshipped them as Gods thousands of years before Christ was born?

A cat is a cat. This is ALL about God's human creation.

3. Why aren't Dinosaurs mentioned in Genesis during the period between the Earth being created and the creation of man, science has shown that they existed for 160,000,000 years right up until 65,000,000 years ago? Quite a substantial amount of time to just leave out.

Many Thanks

God created the world for MAN. Not dinosaurs. When you talk about things occuring before man's presense here, they simply do not apply to OUR problem.

There is no reason to bring cats and dinosaurs into the problem, we have enough problems of our own!

This is about our individual, personal relationships with the Almighty. Not cats, not evolution.

Trying to justify a falsehood is simply pride hard at work. And God cannot speak to the prideful, therefore no relationship.

The first quote is Jewish law. Rulers had to make laws to keep fairness and peace within the kingdom. Lots of our laws are like that today. We have them so if someone has been wronged he may be repayed and the wrongdoer is punished.

But Jesus set up a law of grace and mercy. He was saying that even you may be wronged you ought to forgive them just as He forgave you. Kind of a "judge not lest ye be judged" deal. If we were to condemn them for wronging us then God has every right to condemn us for all the wrongs we have done.
2. Why aren't cats mentioned in the Bible even though the ancient Egyptians worshipped them as Gods thousands of years before Christ was born?
I dunno. Maybe God didn't need to mention them. Maybe cats, as gods, are included with the general term "idols".

I know this isn't a debate section but I just want to point out that you are coming from a evolution standpoint. The Bible does not support evolution so it wouldn't be smart to look to the Bible to comment on evolution.

Secondly, dinosaurs were just another creature. They were made along with any other land beast or sea creature. Because evolution vs. creation has become such a important topic to the world, dinosaurs especially have become more and more glorified as great creatures. We then expect such great creatures to be given a special place in the Bible and be mentioned by name (which is actually impossible because the term 'dinosaur' is reletively new). But God created dinosaurs just the same as the rest of creation. There really isn't anything special about dinos.

The Bible does not support evolution as the ANSWER.

But it does support evolution.

Everything from Genesis onward shows changes to humankind with each passing generation. This IS evolution. Man was created as he is, and as he is he was created to survive his environment. Evolution of Man, then, is part of the plan, and not to be totally discounted.

We dispute the idea that Man evolved from ape, or earlier versions of Man barely considered human in their nature. We do not dispute God's creation of Man as he is, able to change to adapt to a changing environment as determined by God's greater purpose.

Evolutionists are wrong only in their perception of what brought about sentient existence on Earth. Consider, if God exists, then it stands that God IS the creator of all things by nature of the definition of Him. Being the creator, He has ultimate power over that creation, and may choose whatever version of that creation to come into existence only by speaking the Word. His Word carries power to all corners of that creation.

And when He said "no proof", He meant it. Not one shred of evidence. God does not have to require proof of His existence to exist. He simply IS. This being the nature of His will, that faith alone must be the driving concern of those who believe, we believe in order to accept things as they are, not as people perceive them.

Evolution exists. We see the evidence in History, in biblical text, in medical documentation, and in our own lives. Each of us individually, and as a people, change with time, and with the passing generations.

Don't discount part of God's creation, just because certain self-interest groups choose to use these things to further their own purpose.

Dangit, I'm debating :doh:

Thanks Guys, I was talking to some people I know yesterday at the Gym and these 3 questions came up somehow out of the blue almost.

I'm comfortable now handling answers to the 1st and 3rd questions but I think I'll have to look into the cats issue a little more, quite an interesting question I thought lol. If I ever find out I'll let you know, lol.

Thanks again :thumbsup:

1 the eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth wasn't promoted. It was just the way it was and a way of having justice. That was durring the time of the law. Law is still based that way but we as Christians are encouraged to forgive and leave the justice to God rather than the court.
2 Cats are not important compared to all the things that are in the Bible.
3 this may be explained by the Bible's 6 "days" of creation being a metaphor since God is not bound by time as we are, or as I believe it, Science's dating methods are wrong... Also Dinosaurs may have died earlier than man since in those times men lived much longer lives... human bones may not preserve as well as dinosaur bones... but it still all comes down to the insignificance of them. Just as the planets were not mentioned in the Bible.

Hi,

I'm a cynical christian wresting with some obscure problems which I'd like some opinions upon ...

* Free will
(first take)
If God is omnipotent then he knows everything that is going to happen, if he knows every that is going to happen in our lives before he creates us then there is no such thing as free-will.

If there is no free-will then this contradicts the bible ... hence the bible is false?

(second take)
Free will exists, thus God doesn't know what mankind is going to do ... hence he isn't omnipotent ... and the bible is false?

* God created the devil?
If God is omnipotent why did he create the devil? ... and why does he allow the devil to continue?

If he created the devil on purpose knowing the evil he was to do, surely this makes God non-good?

* Garden of Eden
I have 3 kids, if I have something harmful in the house then I ensure its safely tucked away out of reach - why have the tree of knowledge easily in reach of Adam and Eve? ...

Plus if God is omnipotent then he set them up for a fall anyway as he 'knew' they were going to do this ... surely not the act of a 'good' God.

* Why no proof?
If God is good then why is it impossible to prove which of the many religions in the world are 'right'. Surely a good God would give some sort of clue as to which is the true religion (if any) rather than making individuals guess and cross their fingers?
Those were some interesting questions. God made us after his own likeness. We were more like him in the beginning before Adam sinned. After we sinned, we inherited the traits of Satan himself. Now, After Jesus Christ came, we are offered the chance to reclaim our inheritance lost due to sin.

There is such as thing as free will. That does not mean God doesn't allow things to happen in our lives to guide our choices. A person has a right to go to either heaven or hell. No one will go to either place without making the choice.

God is omnipotent. It is impossible for us to be able to expain his vast knowledge. Think about it, mankind doesn't even have a full grasp on the things of this earth. How can we explain God, who made us?

God is a good God for the mere fact that he gave us a free will. For those of us that choose Christ Jesus and heaven, we will feel good because we made the right decision and decided to suffer on this earth so that we can live and reign with him. We will know that we were not made like robots with actions programmed by God.

Think about this. Not many people want to marry someone who is forced into marrying them with the absence of love. We want to know that the people we are with love us and are willing to sacrifice things if necessary to be with us. We want someone who is faithful and sincere.

Well, God is the very same way. If we chooseto acknowledge his son Jesus and what he did for us, lay down our life of sin(repent) to seek the life that Jesus would have us live here on earth(with mistakes here and there i'm sure), then it would require a life of effort. We are saved once we repent of our sins. We must then fight the good fight of faith and let no one steal our crown. This, no doubt shows our true heart towards God. God knows that we love him because he sees us striving to reach a level that's closer and closer to him.

* Why no proof?
If God is good then why is it impossible to prove which of the many religions in the world are 'right'. Surely a good God would give some sort of clue as to which is the true religion (if any) rather than making individuals guess and cross their fingers?[/QUOTE]
Mankind, throughout history, has always been known to be stubborn when it comes to God. Sometimes, man will believe in everything but the one and only true God. God turns people over to themselves when they constantly reject him. All of this confusion(many religions) in the world is just a tangent of the original stubborness of man. It has affected many generations, no doubt. I would just recommend you asking Jesus to come into your life and I believe he will let you know that he's the one. When God judges all things, he will do it in a way that all will illustrate how ignorant those of us were who rejected him as well as reward those of us who accepted him. He can just do things right now that will convince every person on earth that he's the one and only true God, but that would be like a millionare trying to find a wife that loves him for his person and not the money. He will show himself as God to those who are seeking him in humility. He will not show himself as being God to those who are arrogant enough to reject him and try to explain things that only God knows, unless it has been revealed to them from God. When a person challenges God, it will only be used against them as evidence on judgement day.

about Satan- How can we have free will to choose without a choice?
We do have a choice. What does this have to do with Saten? We choose to follow God or not to... The Devil loves it when we turn away from God.
