I think for the Jews their slaves' day off was on Saturday because no work was allowed on the Sabbath
'Saturday' is a Roman-style day [starting at midnight in paradoxical 'local' time], Jesus and the Jews kept sabbath by the scriptural time of God, [not local time as there was no such thing] ... as scripture reveals, the days that God defined start with the evening, at sunset, not at midnight ... so which sunset? ... clearly Jesus showed us that the Jews had indeed, as scripture declares kept the time of the sabbath correctly to the right day, they had kept the count of days even in their wanderings in the desserts... thus we may take sunset Jerusalem as the time for all [simultaneously worldwide] to keep holy sabbath of God ... that time is called 'Friday' [in Jerusalem] by some , but it is not even Friday everywhere on earth at that time, that is how paradoxical our system is compared to God's absolute way of time-keeping for men...

Who art thou that judgest the servant of another? to his own lord he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be made to stand; for the Lord hath power to make him stand. One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let each man be fully assured in his own mind. (Rom 14:4-5)

Paul also says

Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of a feast day or a new moon or a sabbath day: which are a shadow of the things to come; but the body is Christ's. (Col 2:16-17)

The whole point of Galatians, in my opinion, is that Paul stopped observing the traditions of the law once he began hearing God's voice on the road to Damascus. From thenceforth he let the Voice decide whether he would observe any of the laws including the sabbath. True, I don't hear the voice as well as Paul did, i'm just doing the best I can, please don't judge me.

No-one [following Christ] is judging you, merely discussing the point so that all can make the judgment of the truth for themselves....

God indeed makes only a few follow the "narrow way" and as the master potter makes others follow the way through death and resurrecton... there is no judgment until AFTER death and resurrection and God's final pouring out of the truth on ALL flesh , so that we no longer have to fish for it in words:

Rom 9:21 Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour?
22 What if God, willing to shew his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction: {fitted: or, made up}
23 And that he might make known the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he had afore prepared unto glory

Matthew 7:13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: {strait: or, narrow}

Acts 2:17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh:

Luke 12:51 Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division:

Simply consider what we can see ... division rather than ONE truth of God, so the spirit is NOT yet on all flesh, not even within the countless sects of christianity! ...

considering that very MANY christians have already died then we know that being a christian does not mean the same as entering at the narrow gate!

Why would God say that it is the seventh [hebrew-style] day of the week if any old day, even a Roman-style day like Sunday or Saturday would somehow be holy too ?
Why would God make wearing mixed cloth against His Law? Because it was a symbol? A symbol who's time has passed with the coming of the Messiah? Who set us free from these things? Just a thought.

If you give Him six good days, but ignore the sabbath, trust me, He'll be a lot more excited about you than a whole lot of sabbath-keepers.
I find the idea of God getting excited at all, let alone about sinful man's behaviour, rather more than unlikely....

but in relation to sabbth-keeping I would like to underline [as you indicate] that I make no judgment, that is for God, but only mean to point out what the scripture says, it is up to each to hear or not as God guides all lives but not in the same paths [Rom 9:21-23] even though Jesus is eventually saviour of all men [1 Timothy 4:10]

Thus I would merely point out [without judgment] that the scripture prophesies of the significance of the specific hly sabbath that God defines in scripture and Jesus kept , saying that it is made for man ...

Mark 2:27 And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man...

In what way was it made for man... it was made hly and a blessing to men, long even before the covenant with Israel [merely an agreement to KEEP the blessed holy day, not its creation as a blessing for ALL men who choose to keep it and know when it is]

Gen 2:3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it...

So here is this sams holy sabbath turning up again as CRITICAL blessing for a few men in the FUTURE :-

Isaiah 56:2 Blessed is the man that doeth this, and the son of man that layeth hold on it; that keepeth the sabbath from polluting it, and keepeth his hand from doing any evil.
3 ¶ Neither let the son of the stranger, that hath joined himself to the LORD, speak, saying, The LORD hath utterly separated me from his people: neither let the eunuch say, Behold, I am a dry tree.
4 For thus saith the LORD unto the eunuchs that keep my sabbaths, and choose the things that please me, and take hold of my covenant;
5 Even unto them will I give in mine house and within my walls a place and a name better than of sons and of daughters: I will give them an everlasting name, that shall not be cut off.
6 Also the sons of the stranger, that join themselves to the LORD, to serve him, and to love the name of the LORD, to be his servants, every one that keepeth the sabbath from polluting it, and taketh hold of my covenant;
7 Even them will I bring to my holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of prayer: their burnt offerings and their sacrifices shall be accepted upon mine altar; for mine house shall be called an house of prayer for all people.
8 The Lord GOD which gathereth the outcasts of Israel saith, Yet will I gather others to him, beside those that are gathered unto him. {beside…: Heb. to his gathered}

There is more, but that is maybe enough to make the point?

Hi all --

The Sabbath shall be observed following the return of Christ, when the fullness of the New Covenant shall spread over all the earth (Is. 66:23).

The Lord's annual Sabbaths, in fact, shall be observed following the return of Christ, when the fullness of the New Covenant shall spread over all the earth (Zechariah 14:16-19).

The Pope Says Don't Do THIS on Sundays ---

No more watching movies or football games on Sundays. Pope John Paul II has decreed that Roman Catholics should reserve Sunday as a day for God only and not for secular diversions, such as entertainment and sports, reports Reuters.

"When Sunday loses its fundamental meaning and becomes subordinate to a secular concept of 'weekend' dominated by such things as entertainment and sport, people stay locked within a horizon so narrow that they can no longer see the heavens," the pontiff said in a speech to 35 Australian bishops, who recently made a pilgrimage to the Vatican. The pope blasted what he called "the pernicious ideology of secularism."

Condemning the "culture of the here and now," the Holy Father encouraged the leaders of the church to "lead men and women from the shadows of moral confusion and ambiguous thinking." Noting the secular culture is undermining family life, the pope encouraged Catholics to remain faithful to the Sunday Mass.

"Sunday is the supreme day of faith, an indispensable day, the day of Christian hope. Any weakening in the Sunday observance of Holy Mass weakens Christian discipleship." - PJP2

Its rediculous to argue about this, all days are holy under Christ. If you treat Sunday as "more holy" then you are witholding from him the rest of the week. How can you even think to do such a thing?

Christ came to free us from the grave that was the law, and you just make more for yourself, did Jesus' death mean nothing to you?
