  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I personally like the NIV for general reading, and the NKJV for study. Our Pastor and Elders use the ESV. I know there is a lot of debate about the interpretation method in regards to the NIV but I still like the way it reads. I have a copy of the Reformation study Bible that I simply love. It is jam-packed with great reformed notes and it uses all the great confessions in its study system.

NASB right now. Our church uses the NIV alot, but I much prefer the NASB for personal reading. I'm wanting next to get the ESV; was reading that at the bookstore, and I liked it too. I have a NKJV bible but I don't use it much anymore. It's a Nelson's Study Bible, and I don't agree with some of the study notes anymore....

I use the KJV and the NKJV, I dislike the way in which the NIV and other like translations read. I also find it irresponible for the Christian world to promote more then one manuscript and claim they're 'all' the word of God.

I primarily use the NKJV in the New Geneva Study Bible. As Irishcat said, it is full of interesting information that clarifies so many aspects of Scripture. I absolutely love the theological notes.

God bless

I use the NAS, ESV, and MKJV, and cross-reference with all of the ones I have on my computer (which is bunches!).

I prefer the NASB study bible or the ESV.

When I want to study the Apocrypha, the NRSV. Or if I'm in a really historical mood I'll look up the KJV Apocrypha.

Although I was raised on the NIV and my current church uses it as the pew bible, I really dislike the language of the NIV.

I use the NASB for study and the ESV for a reading bible. I don't personally care for the NIV or the NRSV, but that is just me, and I still use them sometimes. When I'm feeling especially scholarly (or just anachronistic and cranky), I read the KJV1611 or the Geneva.

The only bible I would actually avoid is The Message. Yuk!

Just switched from NKJV to New Jerusalem- the new jerusalem is truely amazing!
I checked out the new jerusalem bible from the library a few months ago-- I really liked it alot also!! I would also like to get that one for my library some day....

I'm glad to see there are others out there that don't like how the NIV reads! Our church uses that one quite alot but I just don't care for it. It seems kinda, well, dry I guess. Maybe it's just me....

As for a lousy version, have you all heard about the bible "The Word On The Street"? OH MY ___! It's awful.....!!! I'd take "The Message" bible any day over that one!!!
There's another one out there that someone in UT mentioned also----they actually changed the apostles names(peter is now "rocky"),and there is cuss words in it. It also did away with the pesky references to monogamy and marriage....... It's a sad state of the world when you get bible versions like this in the world...:sigh:
