After reading Mt. 15 today I searched out commentaries and learned that the Corban (which means 'offering') was a common religious practice in which some of the religious leaders, Pharisees, dedicated money to the temple but ignored their obligation to care for their aging parents..Jesus admonished them for being hypocrites who did not "Honor thy father and mother" and referred to the scripture from Isaiah below:

Isaiah 29:13 ... "These people come near to me with their mouth and honor me with their lips but their hearts are far from me."
