  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I was just wandering what everyones favorite study helps are (concordances, dictionaries, commentaries, etc.)? I prefer a Strongs concordance, a vines dictionary, and if I do use a commentary I will usually go the Liberty commentary first. I also will compare different translations sometimes. But mt best all in one is my Hebrew-Greek study bible with a built in lexicon. I have one in a KJV and a NASB. One reason I ask though is because I have been looking for a good topical concordance and thought you guys might give me some good insight.

Nave's Topical Bible is the best topical concordance you can find. Just remember that tools are just that, tools. They are never to be the final say on anything in the Scriptures. Commentaries are great to find out how other men have interpreted or applied the Scriptures but they are best used as checks on yourself rather than as an authority. By all means God does use men to give light and I have gained much light from the writings and teaching of other men. But never are we to take even the best of men as authorities and not question and check what they say by the Scriptures. I know of no men with whom I agree totally with. My most favorite theologian is wrong on a few things. Use the tools but don't rely only on them.

My main bible these days is a KJV Longprimer Reference Bible. It doesn't have any notes, just scripture References.

 That's the ticket. Something that'll make you search through God's word. Nothing beats the AV with a simple refernce system...as long as it's not Scofields! I choose the TBS Bible with Scottish Psalter in the back for devotionals.

I think I'll buy from Local Church Bible Publishers next time.

Nice! I'm planning to get my wife a nice reference bible for her birthday in December, God willing, she prefers the ESV though. She has an ESV study bible and really likes it. She also has an ESV Scofield bible but the notes in it are pretty skimpy and not well done. I would get her a Macarthur if he made one in the ESV. I'll stick to my KJV reference though.
