  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I have been asked to host a bible study for next years campus ministry. I didnt really want to do it but as I was on my way to our ministry after party i was praying and i happened to be listening to this song on the radio as i was praying to see if i should be a leader or not. This is what the song said up to the first chorus...

So you say you wanna stay at home
Another night in your comfort zone
I know it's easy to get caught up in the same routine
So many things that you avoid
But you don't have to be paranoid
Your heart says go but you're in limbo somewhere in between
You're always talking but it's getting you nowhere
Take the first step and it might just take you there, yeah

It's about time
You got your feet wet
It's about time
You took a dive in the deep end
Been a long time
You don't need a reason
Give it up get it out
Do what you believe in
It's about time
You got a little crazy
It's about time
So jump in, baby
Been a long time
Waiting on the sidelines
Live it up let it out
Baby it's about time

So Yea... I got Owned by the spirit and i think the song was God saying yes I want you to lead a bible study. SO I wanna know what im gonna need to do to be prepared to lead a study. has anyone lead a bible study before in the singles forum? what do i need to do to get ready for this?

Well, pick a topic or passage, first of all. My bible study group recently did the Parables of Jesus, which worked pretty well without a guidebook. Then you need to study up on it yourself... this is the fun part. :)

Depending on your confidence level, you may wish to pick up a specific bible study guidebook, which can be found at any christian bookstore.

I dont know if I really wanna be bound by a specific book though. God may tell you he wants something different on a specific night and you will still want to do the book thing. I dunno but thats my opinion on it. ill have to think about it more but id prefer freestylin it

I find my piece in reading the Good Bible in private so that I can feel or do my best to feel God' presence in me and to feel that he is in my heart and soul and feel that he is speaking to me.

using a book as a general guide does not mean that you are tied to it at all costs. there is nothing wrong with diverging sometimes. :)

Hi Chevy, personally the book serves as a guide like klewis says. So when i read the book, i would pick out the interesting points there and then decide "ok this is what i'm going to focus my sharing on". oh wait, i don't really understand what you mean by leading a bible study. For me if i lead in a cell group then i would do the abovementioned.

If it's strictly going to be a time where we dig deep into the word to find things out, then what i did was prepare notes for them. I've led out in different styles, you gotta tell me what you have in mind and what you mean by leading out bible study.

in a small group situation, it is not necessary for you to have done a major exegetical study on a passage or anything, but if you are leading the study, it is always good to know what you are talking about. That is why it is easier to study a book or theme, and get some materials to help you along the way.

As far as the best thing that I have seen to create fellowship, get into the text, and make personal application without having to be an expert on the subject, I would whole-heartedly recommend the Serendipity Bible by Zondervan. It is excellent for small group discussion, and will also give the leader the confidence that is needed, as well as the right questions for deep discusion. Check it out- its definitely worth it!
