  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I would like to find something to help me with learning the bible more. I used to have a life application bible, so I would like something along those lines, however, I don't want it IN my bible. Sometimes when I would read the life application bible, all the notes and helps, while helpful much of the time, often distracted me from just the words in the bible. Does anyone know of anything that might be like a separate study companion? I would like something on paper instead of online, although I would keep an open mind if I found something online that was helpful.

thanks :)

The best ones would be the Oxford Bible Commentary volumes that have come out separately. They are the 2007 Edition.
Pentateuch: Oxford Bible Commentary pentateuch - AbeBooks Review by amazonmark on May 24. 2014 says: "The analysis is deep but presented in a manner that a non scholar can understand. The author explores the biblical texts without an ideological axe."
Apocrypha: The Apocrypha (Oxford Bible Commentary): OUP Oxford 9780199650811 Paperback - Sandpiper Books Ltd Review by celery on March 27. 2014 says: "Loads of information packed in a small space. Suitable for novice or a more scholarly reader. Very good, would recommend"
Gospels: Amazon.co.uk: Buying Choices: The Gospels (Oxford Bible Commentary)
Pauline Letters: www.amazon.co.uk/Pauline-Epistles-O...=Oxford+Bible+Commentary+John+Barton+Muddiman
These will be a low-cost somewhat unbiased solution to cover much of the Bible and 1 Clem.

If You can't wait for the rest of the volumes to come out and want to cover the whole Bible now, buy also the 2007 Edition paperback Oxford Bible Commentary (1 vol.) in addition to the above volumes. The above volumes are the ones You can carry around.
The 2001 Edition used to be offered in Logos but hasn't been sold for a long time and is near impossible to get hold of used as people are not willing to sell it. You can however post on Facebook asking if someone would sell it to You: https://www.facebook.com/groups/548061461941184/ ... Logos has both Android, iPad and Kindle Fire software versions. Logos will charge a $20 license transfer fee when You get something used regardless of the amount of resources.
