  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

A thing I was wondering about when reading Ecclesiastes 4: 9-12. Do you suppose Solomon was speaking of a husband and wife here? That two are stronger together than one on his own? Such that God is encouraging love between man and woman here, that they be stronger together i stead of alone? I mean, it appears that Solomon never used any reference to woman here in this passage, with feminine pronouns here, so maybe he wasn't necessarily speaking of two people in romantic love
Maybe the two - or the three in terms of the cord of three strands mentioned at the end of the passage - refer to two humans related by blood, or two humans who are friends to the death, or the couple who are married or in love. Either way, I assume this passage speaks of the power of love able to resist evil and misfortune, and perhaps that love can be of any kind - filial, romantic, or friendship. :)

A passage from Acts 14 that stood out to me:

35Therefore He also says in another Psalm, ‘YOU WILL NOT ALLOW YOUR HOLY ONE TO UNDERGO DECAY.’ 36For David, after he had served the purpose of God in his own generation, fell asleep, and was laid among his fathers and underwent decay; 37but He whom God raised did not undergo decay. 38Therefore let it be known to you, brethren, that through Him forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you, 39and through Him everyone who believes is freed from all things, from which you could not be freed through the Law of Moses.

Preach it, Brother Paul and Brother Barnabas. Preach it. :)

In those times, as you can see in the following passage, apparently many who listened to the preaching of the Gospel were not only willing to receive it, rather than turn away or condemn the apostles like some of the Jews did, but they wanted to hear more! All about God's message of love and salvation through His Son Jesus and His new command to but believe and have faith. The crowd that was being addressed in this part of the chapter actually pleaded with Paul and Barnabas to return to them the next Sabbath and preach to them again!
