Joab the son of Zeruiah, was the nephew of King David and the commander of his army......he died a tragic death...
i believe it was a tragic mistake for DAvid to have Joab killed...he should've died an honorable, old-age death...

Yes Joab was very loyal to the state of Israel. Joab executed the traitor Absalom. Absalom started a revolt against David in which many Israelites died. King David had to go into hiding to save his own life. Joab sorted out the mess by killing Absalom when his long hair got caught in a tree branch.
