There are times when being in the bathroom is literally the only time I have alone... I'm a stay-at-home mom with a six year old son, and two elderly grandparents living with me. Add the 30 year old husband who might as well be another 6 year old son, a cat and two German Shepherds, as well as various church groups and activities for my son's school.... yeah... being in the bathroom is cherished moments of seclusion

I'll be honest and say I've read while brushing my teeth. I didn't see it as respectful, just that I didn't want to stop reading while cleaning my teeth. Maybe you could try that. Do your pooping, then read while cleaning your teeth. Take 20 minutes if you like - your teeth will shine!

When I poop I sing my favourite pop song. How ironic!

If you don't mind me asking, but how do you read the Bible while brushing your teeth?

heh. That reminds me of my mom when my 3 brothers and I were younger all born within a year and a half of eachother... Now we are all Teens and almost all driving... 15, 17, 19, and me 20 by the end of this year... Our Grandpa on Dad's side lives in a separate part of the house, we have a dog and a cat...
What does the have to do with the topic *thinks of a way to tie it in* JK
What does my mom do now? She shuts herself in her room and reads the bible and other books... She's on a fast now too... I spose that is easier for her to do since we are older and pretty much take care of ourselves.
So as encouragement to you... Teach your children how to do their own laundry, cook, do dishes, all that fun stuff. They may not like it at times but they will appreciate it in the long run and so will you as you will be able to have more time to spend time with God.

What are we talking about here Pooping or reading scripture?
Tee hee hee! ^_^

I have worried about this, too. Well, usually with me, it's when I am showering and I feel the need to pray. I always end up questioning whether I should, but then think "Well, I can't hide anything from Him anyway" but when I do finally pray, I can't concentrate. Thanks for asking the question, now I can pray in the shower with the confidence of an out of the shower prayer. :D
Oh yeah, and about the demon causing you to quit reading in the bathroom, I say that is a serious possibility.

I am sooo glad that this question was asked. As a baby Christian I began reading the Bible in the bathroom for privacy. I got to Chronicles and suddenly got the idea that it was disrespectful to read it there, so I stopped. And yet I do my best reading in there. Thanks to all for your answers - it's nice to know that I'm not the only one!

Edited to add: If I were to read the Bible while brushing my teeth, I would need a waterproof Bible. :glub: :glub:

I can barely brush my teeth without getting toothpaste on my shirt... Especially in the morning as it takes me several hours to actually become alert after I wake up.
I hope you're female or wear a beard, that sounds dangerous!^_^

When my children were little, I started to get up at 4:30am. God once impressed upon me "It's only hurts when it's time to get up!" Meaning, once I was awake, I was OK.

I was afraid I would wake the house up, but it's not true. I bought a little book lamp for my nightstand, so the light wouldn't wake my husband. I set my coffee the night before on a timer, so it is ready when I get up and I don't make any noise. I read the Word and journal to God.

I get one-two hours of quiet time with God........it's been a great way to start my day... for many many years now.

QUOTEThanks folks. Do you all think it was a demon trying to mislead me, to get me to not read the Word everyday, that got me thinking it was disrespectful?

I did go from everyday, to often, to occassional to way less than I should.

God is awesome in His love and care for us, is He not? Taking the time and trouble to straighten me out!

Hello,

Just want to say that I think that you shouldn't worry too much about whether it was a demon or not - just look at the effect it had on you, and it took you away from God's word for your life.

Now, perhaps someone can find the direct quotation for me. I think it is in something Paul wrote: that if something is good for you but causes your brother to stumble then to try not to offend your brother. But if what you are doing is helpful in your relationship to God, then just because someone else does not find it helpful it doesn't mean it is necessarily wrong (I'm sorry that I have massively paraphrased scripture here).

Other people can have good messages for you, but you need to trust in your own relationship with God and I have begun to realise lately myself that He is actually quite nice really! :)

no demon,it's perfectly fine to read anywhere, even in the washroom. God loves it when His people spend time with Him, wherever we can find a quiet place in our homes, and spend it reading and learning His Word.

Thanks everybody, and Pastor Edwin :preach: (who started the whole thing). Everytime I think I'm the weirdest person on the face of the earth, I find out that there are lots of really nice, normal people who do something that I do, and it makes me feel so much better.

:groupray:
For all you all. (That's formal for "all y'all")

PS Thanks GOD. :prayer:
