Hi

I am excitedly waiting for my KJV large leather bound Bible to arrive.

Im very new to all this and have no idea where to start……reading online you hear some say, from Genesis, then others from John, Romans and so on.

Could I have your opinion on what is going to yield a more personal and fruitful relationship with God as I start this journey to understand his word.

Thank you

David
I agree whole heartedly with SabbathBlessings; there is no right or wrong way; You certainly picked the right book to learn from. It really depends on your knowledge, personality and so much. I have always started things from the beginning. I am a carpenter and never start with the roof but the foundation. But it just depends on you. May I suggest Shepherds Chapel; they teach verse by verse chapter by chapter of the truth. You could go through the Bible in a year if you have an extensive learning curb with them. They will teach you greek, Hebrew language of the KJV Bible. Been with them for decades.

Start with the teachings of Jesus. He's the saviour.

I’ve made it my mission to read every word of God. I just know if I skip the OT and then pop back to it, that my relationship with God will be a little fragmented. I am compelled to read it all and once I finish then I will evaluate the New Testament in full. Like anything with God, it’s very personal and I just have this overwhelming feeling to do as I desire. I’ve never read the word front to back and if I’m dedicating my life to Jesus Christ, then I need to listen to the Holy Spirit.

God Bless
David

No, it won't.
I am compelled to read it all
Sure, you can read it all. Just, start with Jesus. He's the most important part. All the OT is a lead-up to him.
Like anything with God, it’s very personal and I just have this overwhelming feeling to do as I desire.
Well, all that OT reading doesn't seem to be doing much good, because God isn't a fan of human's "overwhelming feeling to do as they desire."
if I’m dedicating my life to Jesus Christ, then I need to listen to the Holy Spirit.
Jesus said that his teachings are the Holy Spirit. He said the job of the Holy Spirit will be to remind us of what he taught. You probably should start with him.

When I started reading the bible "I" was determined to read all the red letters, so Jesus words only. But I found myself needing context, so then started chapters of the Gospels. Meanwhile at work all day long I kept seeing Corinthians, Corinthians flashing in my brain. So I figured if I'm going to start Corinthians might as well be 1 Corinthians and did that during breaks and lunch etc. Then 2 Cor. Then I joined a bible study not knowing where they were at in the bible. I got to the study and the pastor announce we are starting a new portion of scripture today, everyone turn to 1 Corinthians !!!

Well, it doesn't have to be Jesus' words, only, but his are the most important.

I guess you're saying people can't understand Jesus without Paul to provide context?
You shouldn't guess.

@Beslowtoanger, you were very wise coming here and asking questions. I'll not add to the great information you have received about your reading plan, just wanted to say congratulations and well done.

Thank you very much

I will not always get it right but one thing that is 100% right is I need to read the word of God, how that takes shape is in part up to me and in part up to God, but I’m here and it’s done a 360 on my life.

God Bless you

David

God’s law is what reveals sin Romans 3:20 Romans 7:7 it’s like a mirror so we can see our sins. It does not give us the remedy, but it shows us our sin and our need for Jesus. If we did not know our sin or what sin is, we would cover our sins, which we would then not prosper Proverbs 28:13 Jesus is the remedy to sin. In the OC they sacrificed animals for the forgiveness of sins, in the New Covenant, Jesus became our Sacrificial Lamb 1 Cor 5:7 and is now our High Priest, so instead of sacrifice animals when we sin, we can confess directly to Jesus whose blood can cleanse us of all unrighteousness and sin, when we repent and turn from sin. 1 John 1:9.
