  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I discovered something rather frightening.

The Bible Code may actually be a form of Witchcraft known as Arithmancy. Arithmancy was a practice of the Ancient Greek and Babylonian Religions, in which they would use meanings of numbers to divine the future.

What do you think?

Peace,

Windlord.

Well, eitherway the bible code is a crackpot topic. You can't not create a code with the amount of text that's been put together -- it's mathematical probability. There was never any intention by anyone, especially not divine intention -- to create a code. So whoever wants to divine can do so all they want. (However, in my limited knowledge of ancient Greece, I've never heard of them doing arithmancy)

Numerology is a pagan concept being applied spuriously to Scripture. This comes from the ideas that the future can be divined from hidden meanings within its original (or even translated!) languages. This is comes from two basic premises: allegorical interpretation that assumes the literal translation is the least important with deeper allegory being most important (Origen) and a superstitious view that came from pagan roots (look at the early times of phenomenal church growth and the results of the influx of pagans in different early patriarchates and lesser churches).

The Bible Code, or other numerological interpretations, are unreliable fabrications that should not be given any credence as prayer and a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ alone is the only way to divine unknowable things.

While I agree that Numerology has its roots in paganism, Allegorical Interpretations doesn't really. The Talmud itself offers allegorical interpretations of Scripture.

No, I was tying allegorical interpretation into numerology, not allegorical interpretation to paganism. The idea that Scripture holds multiple deeper spiritual meanings is the basis for numerology. Sorry for not phrasing that more clearly.
