  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Can anyone please suggest a Bible App for my Android phone that offers, among others, the RSV translation?
As a young Christian in the 1960s I mostly used the RSV bible, and memorised some chapters. Now I am moving from paper to the bible on my phone, I want that version among others - probably also KJV and something like ESV or NASV. I would like ane App that allows you to quickly switch between versions, offers a text search tool, and audio would also be useful, but not essential.

I first tried YouVersion, but it does not offer RSV. Today I tried the Softcraft App. Its version of the KJV looked OK at a quick glance (haven't fully checked it out), but the chapter breaks in the RSV are often in the wrong place, eg in the Softcraft RSV the text shown as Lk 24:46-53 is actually the opening verses of Jn:1. The opening verses of II Tim 4 are at the end of II Tim 3, etc.

I don't mind paying for an App providing it is not exorbitantly expansive.

Cedric48: YouVersion has the Revised Version, is that too different from the RSV you are seeking?

OKAY! I went to TRUTH & LIFE... It seems!! There is an Android version... I think it's offered as app ..Android from Amazon!! But.. It's what I use!! It's the best Bible app for a phone imho!!! Like I say on your browser type: Truth & Life Bible App. You should see a T&L HomePage! It'll tell what and where to go for each Smart Phone!! Pax.

Oh ... I looked back at your opening post in the thread.. It has an AWESOME AUDIO for the NT.. Not over top dramatized! It's cool... You can read and listen OR just read... Searching is the EASIEST I've ever had for any Bible app! I grew up with the RSV in the 70's... So if you are an RSV person... It's the "only way to fly"... everyone I've turned onto... Loves it ... I probably have at least 8 friends who now use it as primary RSV app .. And I bought one for my wife she loves it.. she wasn't even raised on RSV! Pax Et Bonum!!

There is a program called LiveBible that has lots of versions, including one called the English Revised Version. I haven't checked into how legal it is for it to provide some of the normally-paid-for translations, though (e.g., NIV). (If anyone knows, please let me know.)
