ENERGY drinks like Red Bull can cause heart attacks and strokes by boosting blood pressure, medics warned yesterday.
Doctors ordered those with heart disease or high blood pressure to avoid them completely.

Just two cans a day of drinks with caffeine and taurine were shown to have an impact.

They caused blood pressure to rise significantly, even in healthy people.

Most energy drinks contain caffeine and taurine – an amino acid found in protein-rich foods like meat and fish thought to make people alert.

Both affect heart rate but little is known about their impact on blood pressure.

Researchers studied 15 men and women who didn’t drink any other caffeine beverage for one week.

They measured blood pressure and heart rate before and after drinking two cans of an energy drink.

Within four hours, their blood pressure and heart rate rose by between five and seven per cent.

This increased by almost ten per cent after seven days.

The study was unveiled at the US Heart Association conference in Orlando, Florida.

Exactly why I don't drink that stuff. My anxiety issues raise my heart rate enough as it is. I don't want to raise it any more or else I would have a heart attack.

Ha ha ha Yeah Red bull and vodka has made for some crazy wake ups after having too much. Your body is on "Total Energy Mode" and you just keep going and going....Its totally bad for you, but I still indulge every so often.:D

I sometimes wish I could handle huge amounts of caffeine, but I just can't. I can't even handle alcohol, either. Basically, my body and mind suck, lol.

You could always pretend that taken together they cancel each other out.

a sense of humor.

laughing so hard your diaphragm spasms essentially cause you to be unable to breathe. if you're lucky you only pass out and your body self-corrects

rare, but possible

Here news about Red Bull and other high energy drinks.

Red Bull Energy Drink May Prove Harmful To Health

Jun 12, 2009 – Mother of one, Brooke Robertson, a twenty-three year old New Zealand woman, may have lost 45 kg in eight months, but she recently suffered a heart attack and has been left with serious health problems. Robertson drank 10 – 14 cans of Red Bull per day of the energy drink.

Robertson says, “I just started drinking it. I wasn’t sleeping. I wasn’t eating – I was exhausted. I continued to drink it because it’s an appetite suppressant and I noticed I was losing weight so I stuck to it". Robertson was able to keep her addiction to the drink a secret for 8 months. From time to time she would nibble on a handful of dried cereal.During a two-week stay in a clinic, she managed to wean herself off the drink. "I had severe withdrawals - sweating, nausea, shaking".

Student Dies on Nightclub Dance Floor after Chugging Four Red Bull Drinks

It was bound to happen sooner or later: Somebody overdoes the caffeine-laced energy drinks and buys the farm. When this happened with ephedra, the FDA stepped in and criminalized ephedra, saying it was "unsafe at any dose" because a few overzealous weight loss consumers who took too much passed out and died. I wonder if the FDA will now ban all caffeinated drinks by applying the same logic?

I doubt it was the Caffeine that did them in.

Just the facts :)

Caffeine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Red Bull 8.2 U.S. fl oz 80mg Caffeine per serving
Coffee, espresso 44–60 mL (1.5-2 U.S. fl oz) 100mg Caffeine per serving

In cases of extreme overdose, death can result. The median lethal dose (LD50) given orally, is 192 milligrams per kilogram in rats.[2] The LD50 of caffeine in humans is dependent on weight and individual sensitivity and estimated to be about 150 to 200 milligrams per kilogram of body mass, roughly 80 to 100 cups of coffee for an average adult taken within a limited time frame that is dependent on half-life. Though achieving lethal dose with caffeine would be exceptionally difficult with regular coffee, there have been reported deaths from overdosing on caffeine pills, with serious symptoms of overdose requiring hospitalization occurring from as little as 2 grams of caffeine

ETA:
They already had medical conditions, possible heart conditions, were on medication that effects the nervous system.

Who drinks two cans of red bull a day? One tastes bad enough but two...

Have you had Red Bull cola? Good stuff man, it reminds me of the old RC.....made with sugar, not high fructose corn syrup. But no, I don't drink two cans a day. I don't drink pop very often at all but that is some good cola.

There are people I work with who buy huge cans of Monster or whatever other energy drink pretty much every single day. If I'm extremely exhausted I will drink like half a can of Red Bull (that's about all I can choke down, that stuff tastes like battery acid) but that only happens when I've been somehow prevented from sleeping the night before and absolutely have to stay alert. With my metabolism half a can is plenty, that stuff is like rocket fuel for me.

I don't know why people substitute a good, healthy night's sleep for an artificial means of staying awake. I guess some of them do it so they can stay up all night partying and then be at work in the morning. I don't see the fun in drinking until I puke my guts out either so I guess I'm just all around boring :p
