Just to say some on CF lean heavily on the CLV bible translation.

Be aware that this was the work of A.E. Knoch a former Plymouth Brethren excommunicated for heresy.

His wayward thinking has influenced how he translated certain passages.

You are welcome to read an article about it here...

All English translations have bias, as they are a translation from another language, and they tend to translate many of the controversial passages according to their doctrinal stance.

I do like the idea of translating the scriptures literally, although sometimes paraphrasing can be very helpful.

A.E. Knoch did not believe in the trinity.

The CLV translation of John 1:1 reflects that.

He says "It is a sin to "believe in" a triune God, a Trinity."

That quote can be read here -http://www.theheraldofgodsgrace.org/Knoch/triune.htm

So beware of the CLV and those who argue quoting it.

I tend to ignore "revelations" based upon obscure bible translations that don't match up with the commonly used and accepted (but not necessarily perfect) translations.

Here is Luke 1:1-4...

"Since, in fact, even many take in hand to compose° . a narrative concerning the matters of which we are fully °assured° . among ourselves, according as .those who, from the beginning coming° . to be eyewitnesses and deputies of the word, give them over to us, it seems good to me also, having fully followed all accurately from the very first, to write to you consecutively, most mighty Theophilus, that you may be recognizing the certainty of the words concerning which you were instructed."

It makes me wonder if A.E. Knoch's native language is English, since this is the strangest use of English that I have ever read.

By contrast, here are the same verses from the NIV...

"Many have undertaken to draw up an account of the things that have been fulfilled among us, just as they were handed down to us by those who from the first were eyewitnesses and servants of the word. With this in mind, since I myself have carefully investigated everything from the beginning, I too decided to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus, so that you may know the certainty of the things you have been taught."

Carl, how did you decide to post about this translation?

"Knoch was raised in a German-speaking part of Missouri, born in St. Louis, Missouri as the son of Adolph Knoch, who had emigrated from Germany to the United States . One of his sisters, Addie, remained in Germany. Knoch grew up bilingually: in his parents' house only German was spoken; Knoch learned English only at school." - Wikipedia (Adolph Ernst Knoch - Wikipedia)

Sure

Here is a reading From the Book of Grayling
9. Fear holds dominion over people when they understand little, and need simple stories and legends to comfort and explain; 10. But legends and the ignorance that give them birth are a house of limitations and darkness. 11. Knowledge is freedom, freedom from ignorance and its offspring fear; knowledge is light and liberation, 12. Knowledge that the world contains itself, and its origins, and the mind of man, 13. From which comes more knowledge, and hope of knowledge again. 14. Dare to know: that is the motto of enlightenment.

Ah, that sounds a great deal like the New World Translation of the J/Ws.

It's an interlinear type of translation. I use it and others quite a bit to check on passages of scripture when I write it out. There is an Esword version available from the concordant site.

I checked out his commentary once,.... it's definitely screwed up, but I don't have problems with the interlinear. I do compare it with other works to ensure I'm not completely dependent on just one version.
