John W. Styll, President, Gospel Music Association:
"The gospel music community has not been immune from the financial damage caused by those who illegally obtain music through downloading. Some may argue that it is an act of ministry to give Christian music away. The GMA certainly believes that it is good for people to be exposed to the message of gospel music, just as it would be good for people to read the Bible, but stealing either music or Bibles cannot be justified. It's unfortunate that the music industry has had to resort to prosecution to deter theft, but there seems to be no other choice and thus we lend our support. And as believers in the concept of grace, we are glad to support the amnesty program as well."

Dale Mathews, President, Christian Music Publishers Association:
"The surge and volume of illegal file-sharing over the past several years cry out for action rooted in strength. This latest legal action by the Music Coalition meets that criteria and is supported by the Church Music Publishers Association. We feel it is the small, grass roots writer who is most severely damaged by the all too common illegal acts of file-sharing."

what did you expect? just cause it has christian on the front of their name doesn't mean that they are any better than that of a secular record label. when it comes down to it..... it is all about money. plain and simple. they can sugar-coat it all they want but business is business and money is money. this is not a move to help better the world in getting rid of piraters or people who download music. it is a move to help better the company and to increase revenue. it amazes me sometimes how much organizations with christian in their name can get away with so much. if you were to diasect every record label they would be identical. on the inside they are the same it is on the outside where they are different. when push comes to shove they all have the same basic instinct toward money.

* lbiagm thinks zao is wrong that they really just want you to buy the cds at the store.
ok i'm really sorry to have to say this ibiagm but i think it really needs addressed.... the talking in third person is really retarded man. i realize that i am new to this forum but already i am annoyed. if you are really 20 years old then i really feel sorry for you and will continue to pray for your maturity. and all your posts are only one sentence long at the most containing but a few words most of the time. to most it is really annoying for you to reply...."ibiagm thinks ......." "ibiagm says....." all of the time. i see no heart from you in this forum. i say again, i'm sorry that i had to say it but i feel like it was something that needs addressed. if this means that my post will be deleted then so be it. at least i have it off my chest.

Wow, that was hot! Somebody had some steam to let off.

Let's be frank about this. It's theft. You don't stop paying taxes because the government is corrupt (Jesus encouraged paying taxes). You don't stop paying tithes because the pastor is driving a fancy car (tithe money is God's money, not yours).

So how then can you not have music one moment, and then have music the next moment without having paid for it? Pure instinct tells you that either it was a gift of God or it's theft. In this case, there was no user called "God" making the stuff available.

Holiness, people! Don't compromise, because, like the Word says: "Do not be fooled - what you sow you will reap" and I sure don't want people stealing stuff from me, regardless of whether it's music or cars or anything else.

You would think Christian labels would encourage the spreading of the good news to all who have a computer while still selling CDs and concert tickets to those who can pay.
You'd think they'd want to go bust as everyone downloads instead of buying...

New member here :)

I own a newly formed Metal label and I am prepared for the fact that people will find and download my artists music. My label deals with Metal Music.. and I am also a Metal fan myself. I know that I personally have come to know and own more Cds from bands as a result of the MP3 craze so I am not worried about the issue.

Now, other styles of music where the fans are not as rabid as Metal/ HArd Rock fans.... I would be upset :)
