  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

How do we constitute a Beth Din?
What is all the rules that must be observed to establish a Beth Din that can hear cases?

Your thoughts

Seems to me that this can only work in Messianic/Christian circles through the established denomination the proposed Beit Din would be a member of. Doctrinal and practical agreement would be the first thing required to have any kind of ecclesiastical court. I don't think there is any other way. Every Church has disciplinary boards, which function as Beit Dins in the manner necessary for their purposes. All a beit din is, is an ecclesiastical ruling council for all intents and purposes.

So, in answer to your question, whichever church/whatever you belong to has probably already established one. If they haven't, they should. It should be relatively easy.

Are you speaking of a Sanhedrin, or a Sanhedrin katan or just a local courts of three?

There needs to be proper Smincha as well. Are you speaking of a Messianic court? to judge on what, Torah or ???

I'm taking this as you mean for Messianic Judaism but it would depends on the different beliefs that are out there. I think that there has been some movement on this front recently.

You may want to look into this here.

A Jewish Beit Din is largely used for the following:
  • Validation of gittin (bills of divorce)
  • Kosher certification
  • Oversite of shochetim
  • Conversion
  • Oversite of a Mikvah
  • Determination of Jewish status
  • Oversite of Mohelim
A Jewish Beit Din will also hear civil cases between Jews to avoid gentile courts of law.

Now, a MESSIANIC beit din? The only one I have ever heard of is the Messianic Jewish Rabbinical Council. This council debates issues of concern within the United Messianic Jewish Congregations, notably:
  • Standards of Observance for members
  • Determination of Jewish status
  • Conversions
