  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

best video game of all time.

Ok, we're not even gonna touch the RTS argument here. there's 400+ posts on why either Starcraft or TA is the best... let's not drag it in here ;)

As for greatest game of all time... it's impossible. Super Mario 3 is always a lot of fun to play, but so are a lot of games. Too tough :)

Some contenders:
SHOOTER: Quake online CTF - when I was 15 and 16 I lived this game.
IN A LEAGUE OF ITS OWN: Dynasty Warriors 4 for PS2
RPG: Dragon Warrior 4 for Nintendo
IN ANOTHER LEAGUE OF ITS OWN: Grand Theft Auto 3 for PS2 (although I only recommend it for adults)
ADVENTURE:Legend of Zelda for Nintendo &Zelda II a Link to the Past for Supernintendo
STRATEGY: Age of Empires II: The Conquerors

And I have to say that for multi-player entertainment, NOTHING beats MarioKart!!!

Hey ps139, have you ever tried Grand Theft Auto: Vice City? This game is so awesome and multidimensional, one doesn't even have to follow the story line to enjoy it. Just jump in a car or motorcycle and drive around listening to the radio. Some much work went into this, its like being back in the 1980s for the music, they also have psycho radio preachers, a spoof on public radio, and a chat station.
The story line is Tommy Vercetti just released from prison after 15yrs, then he slowly takes over the Miami (Vice City) mob. Definitely for adults only, but it is entertaining.

no one has mentioned Planescape: Torment yet, so I'm going to throw it in my list. I'm not going to break down what kinds of games they are, I'm just going to throw out some of my favorites.

Planescape: Torment
Starcraft
Zelda 64
Mario Kart
Half Life series
Grand Theft Auto 3

re: grand theft auto, I thought that 3 was actually better than vice city. The missions were more fun, the look was grittier and more criminal-like, and the city was bigger.

I rented it once, it was really cool. I like the motorcycle a lot. It is really funny when you drive top speed into a car and fly off the cycle hehehe. I am not a fan at al of most 80s music, so right off the bat I didnt like the music as much as GTA3 (although the openign scene Michael Jackson song is cool). It is a sweet game but I liked GTA3 much better. I have noticed it being sold for a really low price lately, maybe I'll buy it. Of course, this will have to be after I win all the PGA Tours for Tiger Woods 2004 :)

Best action/combat game: Metal Gear Solid. This game is a real masterpiece. Lots of action, great character development, and an outstanding storyline. It also set the standard for stealth gameplay, where avoiding a fight is preferable to blowing up everything in sight.

Best driving/racing game: Grand Turismo 2. Even though it doesn't have crash physics, it has the most realistic handling physics I've ever experienced in a video game. You can take what you've learned about vehicle dynamics from the game and apply it to real driving (and vice versa). And it does it all with a relatively (by current standards) low powered system, the original Playstation.

NES: Metroid, Zelda 2, Little Ninja Bros
SNES: Secret Of Mana, Donkey Kong Country 1,2,&3, Super Mario World
N64: Mario 64, Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Gamecube: SSX (I don't own very many so that opinion isn't very good)
Gameboy: Tetris, Kid Icaris

Of everything I think Secret of Mana would win.
