Hello,

Does anybody know the best places (least expensive) to purchase icons online?

I'm on disability, so I can't afford a lot...seems like many of the icon sites I have seen were rediculously expensive. I have the ability to professionally print an icon, but haven't been able to find good quality jpegs of the ones I like.

Thanks,

IC XC NIKA,

:crossrc: Joseph

I am also trying to find a clean copy of, or where I can purchase this particular icon....I just love it, but can't find it anywhere

www.skete.com is another option.

also, sometimes you can buy the paper prints of these icons (much cheaper) from different icon sellers. they may not offer them for sale that way on thier site, but sometimes will sell them to you if you ask.

I can't remember where I got them, but I got some paper icons several years back. also, the deacon at my old parish mounted icons...i will ask him where he gets the paper originals...

Scary stuff.

It actually used to do it the right way, but the Catholics petitioned for their own sign of the cross icon and I guess Erwin just reversed it, not thinking that now there was only a female EO one... lol...

You're new. :) It will let you do so when you have more posts.

That's how my priest and his wife came in. I also know another priest that came in through HOOM. I don't really know what happened to them(HOOM) afterwards though.

If you like the Russian icons (from Sophrino), a good place to get them is Not of This World Icons at www.NotOfThisWorldIcons.com. I called them and got a catalog from them. He just asks that you call him before you order to make sure that they are available. He only gets them in once a year. They have this one particular icon that I was looking for and couldn't find on the other sites I looked at. Matushka told me about them at Pascha when I told her that I was looking for a particular icon.

E-Bay has a lot of the Russian icons also. Look under Collectibles, then Religious Items (or something similar to that), and there is a listing for Icons. There are a lot of Catholic icons too, but you can usually tell those from the Orthodox icons. You can get a really good price there as well. One good thing about doing this is that they at least end up in Orthodox hands instead of being collected as works of art by others.

The U.S. certainly is fertile ground for nutball religious groups of all kinds.

Good grief!
Yup. I was thinking of applying for a position in Greece to teach English as a second language. One of the questions on the application was, "Why do you want to come to Greece?" My answer was/is going to be "I thought it'd be nice to live somewhere for a while where I don't have to constantly try to convince people I'm a Christian."

I don't understand the pricing. What exactly do you get for 9.99? I card? A wooden icon? Handpainted (or a copy of one?). What size? What's this "bidding" about? I love many of the icons there, but I have no idea how what I would be getting and what the prices are.

Speaking of teaching ESL in foreign countries, I taught English in Russia (Moscow) for a short while.

Now there one can get the most wonderful icons imaginable for practically no money (by U.S. standards anyway).

They are for sale everywhere, even in the Metro.

The best ones are found in the monasteries and convents, where they are also incredibly inexpensive.

Next time I go, I'm packing a steamer trunk.
