I don't understand the pricing. What exactly do you get for 9.99? I card? A wooden icon? Handpainted (or a copy of one?). What size? What's this "bidding" about? I love many of the icons there, but I have no idea how what I would be getting and what the prices are.

John

I have purchased from skycanvas. They are mounted on wood. The bidding refers to icons on eBay.

The icons I purchased from skycanvas are great.

Who are those people? I can't find anything about what their community is that they talk about. The obvisously must take other peoples prints and mount them, because these are icons from other sources. There's even completely non Orthodox images in there.

Something seems a little odd.

Speaking of teaching ESL in foreign countries, I taught English in Russia (Moscow) for a short while.

Now there one can get the most wonderful icons imaginable for practically no money (by U.S. standards anyway).

They are for sale everywhere, even in the Metro.

The best ones are found in the monasteries and convents, where they are also incredibly inexpensive.

Next time I go, I'm packing a steamer trunk.

Thanks for the info, Maximus. I'll bring a big box with me when I head to Novgorod next spring. I'll start a thread before I go asking people what icons (if any) they want. It'll be fun.

XB!

The only problem with Russia is, accordignt o my friend who went there, that they will confiscate any antique icons you have bought because they feel these are part of their national heritage. I don't know what the age limit is, if this is always enforced and if there are special ways to get around this. Anyone else know anything? It could be customs just stealing icons... but my friend seemed to think this was actually russian policy (he went a couple years ago) and he's generally pretty distrustful of people's motives.
