  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I actually don't have a machine at the moment, but will be buying one soon. I built my brother this machine a month ago though (true creation)..

Shuttle SN85G4V2 XPC
AMD Athlon 64 2800+
ATI Radeon 9600 128MB
70GB WD Raptor 10k RPM SATA (This thing SCREAMS!)
512MB Corsair XMS DDR4000 (1x)

He doesn't do much gaming, but he's all into Flash production. The A64 and the cas 2 memory would be nothing without the 10k Raptor.. man it makes such a difference.

Well, that's tough to beat... but if I show you pictures of my Xerox 820-II system (which will be working as soon as I replace two ICs) can we call it a draw?
I have a working, stock Apple IIGS, at least it worked the last time I had room to set it up. And I could prolly put together a C64 with the parts I have laying around. Sorry, never liked the Vic20, so I passed on one. My other systems aren't near as cool, just a P1, and a couple Celerons--ick. P1 is so much more stable than the Celerons too. I have to resart them at least once a day, and I can leave the 120MHz run for weeks, It's just slow.

Funny thing is, I never really saw much of a performance difference between 2 and 4 processors (at least with gaming), so I've always stuck with 2.

Question: How would the program even know to make use of the 2nd or 3rd processor? (In idiot terms, please.)

My home system is not much. p4 2.53 gig proc, 768 ddr 2700, 80 gig's or storage, nVidia geforce FX 5600 512 ddr.

::geek talk::
The ones at work however, IBM Regatta class UNIX systems and IBM windows servers with over a terabyte of space, and 8 Xenon proc's hyperthreaded ( so the cpu treats them as 16). They're prety nice.

Try this: Dual 2.8ghz Xeon P4's, 4 gig's 1600mhz RdRam, ATI Radeon x800 XT, 1.5 Terrabytes (that's 1,500 gigs) of 15k Fibre Channel (fiber optic) hard drive space, and a 21" viesonic flatscreen... of course, its all homebuilt with a phat modded case and water cooled ;)

I think I'm going to finally bump going dual xeon's once the p5 hits (well, I know its not technically qualified as p5) and go with dual video cards. I've had dual xeons for sooo long. Funny thing is, I never really saw much of a performance difference between 2 and 4 processors (at least with gaming), so I've always stuck with 2.
Doofus begins drueling :)

I have many computers, but currently only have 3 up and running......

.....a PII 450mhz, 382mb pc100 ram, 10 & 30gig hard drive, dvd rom, 10x4x32 cd-rw, onboard ati video.....(5 1/2 yrs old)

.....a Celeron 2.2ghz, 768mb pc2100 ddr ram, 64mb ati All in Wonder radeon ve video card, 30 & 60 & 80gig hard drives, zip 100, two 48x24x48 cd-rw drive...(1 yr old)

.....a Celeron 2.6ghz, 768mb pc2800 (I think) ddr ram, onboard video, 80gig hard drive, dvd rom, 48x24x48 cd-rw.....(6 months old)

and soon I will be replaceing the PII 450mhz with a 3.2ghz P4, 2gig pc3200 ddr ram, 250gig hard drive, dvd-rw, and lots of other extras....my PII 450 will then be upgraded a bit and set up as a server.....

I think those shuttle minis are so cool and small, fitting nicely on your desk in a VERY small area. Any cooling issues with those? What has kinda stopped me from buying one is that they only have a spot for one hard drive :( isn't that correct?

Aye, shuttle XPC's are excellent machines and I love them to death. There are absolutely no cooling issues with the modern models (and there weren't any with the older either). The heatpipe design and setup is a very ingenious cooling solution that shuttle has come up with and it's exclusive to them. It keeps the case and cpu temps very low. My shuttle temps actually avg'd lower than most the desktops i'd built. And they do have room for two hard drives, but you need to make a small sacrifice..

on the models that feature space for a floppy, you can put an hd in the spot instead of the floppy, and on the models that feature the card readers, you can remove the card reader and place a hd there. and the power supply can handle the thing fully loaded just fine.
