Why did I intentionally place that blossom out of focus? Use your imagination. Look at the pic. ;)
Hmm... Not really sure, that's why I asked.

You have a huge depth of field - enough to get the other blossoms in focus as well as the background trees - so the range was more than adequate. You've got enough light to do what you want. Was there something in the background that attracted your attention? Is this some sort of technique?

I'm sorry, I really don't know.

We can start a new thread so we don't hijack this one too much, but I'd think that this group is an ideal way to discuss photographic techniques. It sounds like more people than just me I are interested to learn. I'm not attacking you, or saying you're a bad person or a bad photographer, just offering my reaction and trying to learn from you. Isn't that what a public forum is about? So no, I don't think PM would be best. If you wish to tell me something that isn't for the public, feel free.

What is the point of posting pictures here if you don't want to hear the reactions of others?

Our 4-year old daughter has caught the photography bug from her father, who caught it from his grandfather. I thought I would share the results of allowing her to walk around the house with my digital point-and-shoot. Hope you don't mind some gushing from a proud dad! :D

My two hobbies are photography and bicycling... The two go together pretty well, and so I often take days off and go for long trips looking for good places to take pictures of landmarks and scenery. I took these pictures last Saturday during a 42 Mile run out of town. The big picture is viewing Mt. Raineer from a site near Orting, WA. The panoramic one was taken at about 9:00 AM just west of Puyallup. I used a photo editing program to create the special affect there. Enjoy!
Beautiful shots!!! I love mountain photography, and these are excellent.

Minor nitpick: the mountain may be pronounced "ray-NEAR" but it's spelled Rainier. My mnemonic for it is, "It may be rainy here, but in western Washington it's Rainier." ;)

There are some great pics in this thread. I love taking photos, although I can't say I know what I'm doing. Mostly I take pictures of my kids... they're my favorite subject :)

Hi, I'm new to this area, so I had to post because photography is one of my favorite things!

I was able to see my first grandchild being born. Here are a few of the photos I took:

I tried for a long time to get this photo of the geese and I never did get the photo. So when I got home I was surprised to see this photo. I asked my wife and she said she remembered taking the picture. She only had the camera for a few minutes and somehow managed to get the photo I could not get.
