if it does then that's news to me! my Lamsa does not.

Oddly I can't find it right now AngCath. I'll have to ask Cola in the morning if he has it.

How have you been my young friend and how goes school?

School goes well... another successful semester.
Just one more to go until it all gets "real."

I take the General Ordination Exams Jan 5-9.

You can count on extra prayer coverage on those days my friend!

I have the NEB with Apocrypha and the Jerusalem / New Jerusalem plus various others. My copy of Lamsa's translation doesn't have the apocrypha either.

What is the difference between the Revised Standard Version and the New Revised Standard Version?

New Revised Standard Version (NRSV) - published in 1989 by the National Council of Churches, revises the Revised Standard Version of 1952. While following the literal tradition of the RSV, the NRSV eliminates much of the archaic language. One distinctive is the use of gender inclusive pronouns to replace male pronouns when the original writers meant both men and women. The NRSV does not change masculine pronouns referring to God, however.

Bibles are generally translated using one of two methods.
  • Dynamic equivalence attempts to convey the thought expressed in a source text (if necessary, at the expense of literalness, original word order, the source text's grammatical voice, etc.).
  • Formal equivalence attempts to render the text word-for-word (if necessary, at the expense of natural expression in the target language).

NASB, KJV, and ESV are translated with formal equivalence. RSV, NRSV, and NJB balance dynamic and formal equivalence.

Here is a verse by verse comparison of several of the versions spoken of here so you can see how they read. If you want any different versions or verses let me know.

My Lamsa's does not have the apocryphal texts.

It seems you guys are all correct. Problem now is I can't remember which one I was thinking of. Too many meds, too little mind.

Sorry for the confusion.

You have to take an exam? We don't have to. We just have loads of essays and a dissertation at the end.

What does the exam cover?
