• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I was told to take Benadryl, for the anxiety caused by Abilify, has anyone ever tried this? What was the outcome? Which version should I get? Do you have any other remedies?

Interesting i thought Benadryl was for itching! I didn't know it helped anxiety good to know!

Yes, I take it occasionally (but more than most "normal" people do) to help me get to sleep at night. actually, what I take is a sleep medication (OTC). And, if you read the labels, it is THE SAME ingredient in Benadryl.

I really have sleep issues on top of the mental illness. As for calming one in an anxiety attack, or "taking the edge off" or something of that nature, I never thought of that.

My prescribed meds are Lamictal (lamotrigine) 150 mg daily, and Lexapro 10 mg daily.

Many meds have more that one effect. Benedryl and Vistaril are both used for anxiety sometimes quit effectively. they are also used for sleep as a side effect (or other effect) is sleepiness. Benadryl is an antihistamine, thus it's main use is allergies, colds, itching.
