belly dancing is the best thing in the world! it's good for exercise.....pegatha said:I think Middle Eastern dance is incredibly beautiful. I studied it when I was younger, but I found it was something I couldn't really tell people about because of the misperception that it was somehow associated with stripping or other objectionable things. Even recently, when I was taking a ballroom dance class with some of my friends& our husbands, some of them noticed some flyers for a bellydance class being offered at the same studio, and started laughing at the idea. So for those of you who are studying bellydance, do you have that problem? How do you handle it (especially if you go to a very conservative church)? Or are you a "closet" bellydancer? (I'm not concerned with the origins and history of the dance, whether or not it was really performed just for other women, etc., only with the present misconception of it as something on the sleazy side.)

ballet develops your movement..belly dancing takes lower body work, almost a contracting movement..I gave updeornie said:well that was exactly the reaction i got from my parents when i told them i want to do belly-dancing... but i belive it is very graceful and develops your feeling of movement...![]()
