Is anyone familiar with this site? I have signed up for several of their newsletters, though I am weary that they are presenting ideas that are in direct conflict with Orthodox views.

Any help would be appreciated.
I tried navigating the site for a while and found it entirely too secular.

Hi YCGP,

I posted on Belief.net for a number of years. It may be slightly more secular than this site as it is a site created for people of all beliefs. However, if you stick strictly to the christian threads, I think you'll find it's not a whole lot different than this one as far as various ideas and understandings of God, Jesus, the Spirit and the word. I haven't gone on there in a couple of years now, so I imagine that navigating the site is likely somewhat different than when I was there.

God bless you,
In Christ, ted

If you are still acclimating to Orthodoxy (and I myself am, several years in) ... it can be easy to begin to confuse theologies.

I speak with people of all kinds of backgrounds, and seek to understand them, but I don't tend to read articles, books, or listen to teaching outside of Orthodoxy (with the exception of the odd EWTN broadcast, and I'm pretty well-versed in our differences with Catholics).

I really would not recommend a non-Orthodox reading source at this point, unless you are looking for the answer to how a particular denomination views a particular question.

I do realize that a great deal of the articles about how we live out our faith, for example, can be good, and nearly perfectly overlap Orthodox teaching. However, there can also be subtle differences in the thought behind it that may be expressed in a very reasonable-sounding way, especially since they may be telling you to do all the things you know you should do anyway. (Such as advising fasting, but for different reasons.) But if you don't recognize that particular difference, you can accept the heterodox teaching without realizing it. I do see this sometines with Orthodox people who watch various tv preachers, for example.

There is so much wonderful and worthwhile Orthodox reading that a lifetime isn't long enough to read it all. If it were me, I would concentrate on those kinds of things instead.

God be with you.
