Hello.

Jesus said, “According to your faith be it done unto you.” Matthew 9:29

Did you know if you look up the word 'belief' in the thesaurus, its antonym is truth? I was shocked to find this out. If truth is the opposite of belief, then wouldn't that imply that beliefs are untrue? But in my experience, what you believe is far more important than what others might convince you as being true.

When I got sick, I was stuck in the middle of two truths. While going through conventional Western medicine, the holistic healing practitioners I had also been seeing believed I was committing suicide. However, when I immersed myself in the holistic approach, my medical doctors believed I was killing myself by giving up on the medical approach. Hearing these two different “truths” had me constantly worrying that I was making the wrong choice. Meanwhile, I became sicker and sicker - mostly from the stress and fear of not knowing which choice to make!

I realized that the actual truth was that it wasn't that either practice was objectionably the correct choice. In the end, the only thing that mattered were my beliefs about what was good for my body. I needed to believe that I was doing the right thing, that my body was strong and that I was on the right path.

Belief is not the opposite of truth, belief seems to be what shapes your truth. It doesn't matter what type of treatment we do or refuse to do, it's about believing in the power of our bodies, believing we have purpose, and having a passion for our lives. In other words, belief and truth are not opposites. Your beliefs are what shapes your truth!

Does any of this make sense to you?

Belief should be supported by truth when possible. Regarding health I believe the body is far smarter than the smartest physician that ever lived. However, you must entreat it kindly to benefit from its intelligence.

Beliefs are what one accepts as truth .... they can be based on something ... or nothing.

The reason truth could be opposite from belief is because people believe in things that are just not true.

The thesaurus notwithstanding, "truth" as an antonym for "belief" makes no sense. "I believe ..." isn't a truth claim. What I believe may or may not be true. It may be true for reasons other than what I believe.

As I said on your Epistemology thread, "I believe ..." in the context of metaphysical claims such as the existence of God can never mean more that "I hold a strong conviction." The truth is unknowable in this lifetime. If there is a God, then my belief is true; if not, then it's false.

The issue is whether your beliefs or convictions are rational and well-grounded in experience, observation and study (evidence). If they are, they are more likely to be true.

As Christian philosopher Alvin Plantinga emphasizes, much also hinges on one's mental faculties functioning reliably and as they were intended to function. Thinking clearly and rationally, as we see every day, is a challenge for many people.

How does one entreat it kindly?

Yes. What I’m talking about here is something else. How you can actually shape your truth by your beliefs.

Yes. I’m touching on a different subject here. About power of faith, your own beliefs. Not what people impose on you

I agree. Here I’m talking more about application of faith in life. People impose their opinions as truth and then you find out that your own beliefs matter more

One of the keys to a good life is to believe what is true.

Agreed. It’s important to have your own beliefs, that’s what shapes your truth. What others tell you can be true for them, but not necessarily for you

Which truth though? I started a thread about salvation once and received many different answers
There is only one God and that is one truth. He has made Himself known to all. From there all we can do is put trust in that revealing truth.

He has made Himself known to all.
Not exactly "all". There appear to be billions of people today who do not "know" the one God. And if we look at the past 2000 years or so, the percentage about whom we could claim that is quite small.
