  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Being saved = an easy ticket to heaven?

I know there are a few on here who say since our sins our washed away thats its ok to sin after being saved because every sin is has been paid for. To me thats 100% wrong. Because if you could sin freely as a christian what would be the point of being a good christian if you act like a non-christian?

We are to be like Jesus. Does this mean we will ever be perfect? Well no not on earth, but it means we should endlessly try not to sin. I mean why else would we be told to ask for forgivness if sins were supposedly not something to worry about?

'Well I'll do whatever the heck I want and then ask for forgiveness before I die and it will all work out".

Very familiar words from a NONChristian! Whoever seriously says them has no idea the change of nature in the heart of the truly born again.

I truly do not see how anybody who sincerely
sought Christ for salvation would choose to willfully sin the rest of their life after getting saved and say they will ask forgiveness before they die...this is inconsistent with what a blood bought believer would do after they have been born again.

then there are those who simply decide sinful acts are not sinful, and live in them without even thinking of asking for forgivness, they will both find the same reward in the end

What are you trying to say here exactly?
Are you saying that the bible isn't clear when it comes to what is sin and what isn't?

Do whatever you want, you will have consequences - you all know that.

But as for how this Kingdom works, it doesn't work by effort - it works by GRACE.

This LOVE comes on the inside of you, and makes changes, actually replaces the old cynical heart with a new one, just like JESUS has. Jeremiah 24:7

That love then flows out of us, as we let it, and the more we do, the more it comes!

Out of your inward being will flow rivers of living water! Hallelujah!

So its all up to HIM, as we stay rested or focused on that LOVE LIFE flowing in us and out of us to a sick and dying world.

As for sin?

What about it? Why do we go on and on, with never change?

JESUS LOVE makes me a lover, and HE produces the fruit (a branch with effort doesn't produce fruit) and you are all branches! John 15:5

That fruit is LOVE and the rest of the outpourings of that LOVE is : joy, peace, patience, etc.. Galatians 5:22

Love fulfills the law, and love does no harm to his neighbour. Romans 13:10

When you love you don't sin. And you will look around and see that one day, you are simply walking on water, and all you did was look to JESUS (not yourself).

Amazing Simplicity
Incredible Spontaneity

Abundant Life!

Here is the bottom line:

LOVE and do whatever you want!

It's probably possible to tie every human action to either LOVE or lack of LOVE, but the problem arises when people claim that doing whatever they want IS LOVE. :sigh:

Unfortunately, that's too often the claim.

If one is truly born again they will have the holy spirit living in them and cannot wilfully sin for example;
1 John 3:9New International Version (©1984)
No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God's seed remains in him; he cannot go on sinning, because he has been born of God.

Most people see those as two different concepts. We all sin, and we do not cease to be born again because of giving in to temptation, BUT if we make it a way of life ("go on sinning") that's a different matter.

Hey Albion

I think you would agree that:

That is exactly what LOVE is NOT.
LOVE is a PERSON. 1 John 4:8
Because LOVE (or true LOVE/GOD) is always looking and doing what is
best for others. Love is not self seeking (I Cor 13).

It is even willing to sacrifice, to make things better (or for what is best) for the other. It is self loving others, not self loving self (lust).

We die to self so that others are given life.

So then, death is at work in us, but life is at work in you. 1 Corinithians 4:12

It is freedom.
It is what everyone is truly seeking - and I mean everyone.
And us HIS kids, have a direct resource to this LOVE that never runs dry for a world that is parched and thirsty with nothing satisfying.

This scripture is often confusing and scary to most people.

We all have sinned, and we all do and say, foolish stuff at times.

This I believe is talking about abiding or walking in the SPIRIT.

When we do, or rather allow JESUS to love through us, and give up our ideas, and rights and say "not my will, but yours be done".

Then that SPIRIT destroys the flesh - you don't sin, you are killing it.
Walk in the SPIRIT and you wont satisfy the desires of the flesh.

But we do at times, fall into 'flesh' or 'carnal mindedness' forgetting that we are SPIRIT and we have the 'mind of CHRIST'.

As long as we focus on sins, you will never be free of them.
But fix your eyes on JESUS and you will not sin at all.
Let HIS LOVE flow, and trust that LOVE in you, to just reach out, and hug someone, or encourage a stranger, or tell your spouse how much they are needed, and things will change! I dare you to risk it, because in the end, it is the only thing that 'doesn't fail'.

I remember for a long time ago that someone said as long as you were saved your automatically let into heaven. As in no matter what you do (sin or try to be the best Christian you can possibly be) you get into heaven. Is that true?

No it is not true, because then Jesus would not have to been crucified. The reason he was crucified is for us to take on his spirit on our lives and it helps us overcome sin.

Well, if you rigorously apply that standard to the matter, I'd agree, but not with this proposition: "LOVE and do whatever you want!"

Hi Albion

Actually its not rigorous, HIS yoke is easy. Matthew 11:30

Because HE does it, and HE is responsible for it. My part? Simple, want what HE wants.

As for my line "LOVE and do whatever you want".
You don't have to agree or even like it.
I know it rubbed me the wrong way for years too.
I was afraid of what the freedom might do...

OP, resist the enemy and he will flee from you. When you are in Christ, you are a new creation in Christ Jesus.
Let Spirit rule over flesh in your life. Walk in Spirit with Christ, FOLLOW His teachings and commandments. Don't give in to flesh or sinful lifestyles for they are against the Spirit of God which dwells in you.
Continuos, willful, sinful lifestyle grieves the Holy Spirit
With man, some things are impossible but with God, everything is possible.

All things are permissible(because of free will), not everything is beneficial. If you dad loved you since the day you were born, taught you the way of life, fought your physical battles for you and loved you unconditionally, and even gave you permission to go wherever you wanted.
Does this mean you are to go out and commit evil, and do things which are not godly because of the things he did or said? NO. We Christians have to use our godly sense to discern these things.

Christ did not die for us to keep sinning, He came, brought a message about the Kingdom, that we SHOULD abide in this message and emulate Him.

Resisting the enemy and letting Spirit rule over flesh is what makes us Christ-like. Not indulging in sins and thinking Christ does not mind.
HE MINDS, HE CARES and HE does not approve of it

1 Corinthians 10:1-6

For I do not want you to be ignorant of the fact, brothers and sisters, that our ancestors were all under the cloud and that they all passed through the sea.
They were all baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea.

They all ate the same spiritual food 4 and drank the same spiritual drink; for they drank from the spiritual rock that accompanied them, and that rock was Christ.
Nevertheless, God was not pleased with most of them; their bodies were scattered in the wilderness.

Now these things occurred as examples to keep us from setting our hearts on evil things as they did.

I think some of you were to quick to comment against what I said without taking the time to think before you spoke. What I was trying to say was that even as being a saved christian we sometimes stumble. My use of the quote of "Do whatever the heck I want and then make it better before I die" was an example of what NOT TO DO. We should never intentionally sin, but sometimes we do stumble. My only point was this: What's important is that when we stumble we dust ourselves off, learn from our mistake, repent, and try and do better.

I hope this time people will be quick to listen and slow to speak, as it iritates me when I feel people attack an idea without understanding it.
