I would just like to thank God for the reminder that we can't always do it on our own. All of my life, I've always been really good at academics. I've never needed a tutor for anything. Shoot, sometimes I was the tutor! I breezed through middle and high school on my own merits and expected to be able to do it in college as well. I enrolled in Elementary spanish I (spanish happens to be my major, even though I don't speak it yet). I paid attention in class, took notes in class, went on complimentary websites, listened to the CD, everything. I was putting my best foot forward and knew everything would turn up roses. Then we took our first test. Some of it looked familiar, but not enough apparently. I got a 68 on that test. It was devistating. I was honestly trying my absolute hardest and the best I could do was a 68.

Well I've never been one to sit around and mope. I started searching the campus for a hispanic friend I had met during a summer program the previous year. He was from Mexico and spoke very good English but had trouble writing papers in English. I would often help, so he always told me that if I needed help with Spanish, come find him and he would be glad to help. I took him up on his offer. We met together for 30 min. It wasn't very long but it helped very much. On the very next test, i scored an 86!

I was overjoyed and couldn't wait to tell him the good news! The next two weeks we met on saturday and worked together for about an hour and a half. Then came midterms I was nervous and was really hoping for at least a B. Imagine my ecstacy when my teacher handing me back a test with a 95 on it!! I didn't know whether to laugh or cry when I saw that.
So I thank God for my tutor and blessing me with the discernment of when to have enough humility to know when to ask for help.
