  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Behind Open Doors

THIS FONT ADDS TO THE EXPERIENCE

I remember the winter night when it happened. The fire burned down a good part of the town. It was after dawn before the people finally got the blaze under control. By then, it was too late for the dead and dying; too late for my parents. The monsters devastated the city, but buildings can be rebuilt. People cannot, and thats what the fire did. It destroyed the people, shattered their spirit. The monsters took over, and have been here ever since. The children were the most frightened. The monsters were real, and we had no parents to chase them away. Not all monsters have fangs and claws, after all. Some wear velvet gloves. I learned it early, and ever since: it is not what lies behind the closed door that need be feared, but what lies behind the open one.

So, that's the opening idea. The story begins in mid-winter eleven years after the fire. The author of the above is a girl who is learning the skills of magical scribing. However, the monsters that caused the fire have never left, and they are not finished yet.
The city is small, but it is a major center of magical studies. I'm using this to test out some of the theories in my tome of magic.
Races constitute anything that is in classic mythologies, and those races behave like those of classic mythology. if you have more questions about how a certain race behaves, I can answer them for you. If you want to make your own race, I can agree with that.
I'm sure I'm missing something, but I'm in a bit of a hurry.
Please ask if you have questions.

I mean any mythology: Greek, Roman, Egyptian, Nordic, ect. If it is a work of some classical mythology, it can be included. Basically, I want to stay away from the developments of modern fiction.

Okay, well, I suppose that since there is some interest in this, I'll invest some time into it again. First of all, I want to know about your characters. Plastic Diver Guy, explain these Dragonkind? I need to know about them if you want to use them.

Also, if there are any questions, I'll be happy to answer them.

LOL, I'm the one that wants to use the Dragonkind. Me, NavyGuy07.
And basically, this is it:

Dragonkind are a fairly elusive and secretive race, due to their ability to blend in with humans almost perfectly. Their abilities vary according to clan, such as powers in fire, ice, lightning, etc. During battle, they can form claws, fangs, and wings, and depending on both their talent and willingness to risk their humanity, can even form hard, scaly skin for armor. However, going this far can risk a total loss of humanity and a full transformation for a short time, rending friend and foe alike to shreds. Dragonkind, as the misunderstood race that they are, are often hunted down by eager bounty hunters and would-be heroes.

If you need any more, tell me. PM me when you start, too.

The only problem is that this thread is going to follow the rule of my tome of magic. "Ice" is not a magical field in that system.
That said, there are boundless ways to get around it. Take a look-see at my tome and get back to me. If you need ideas on how to rearrange things to conform to the rules, I'll help you out.

It's actually not that difficult. However, I have been meaning to write a quick sheet. I'll do that now. Check back in the tome in a couple of minutes and it should be up.
If you have any questions, please ask me here or there. Part of the reason for this thread is to get some feedback on my magic system. I want the thing to be pretty easy to understand, and if it isn't, that means I need to rework some areas.

In reality, it won't affect writing that much, except it adds a bit more perception about how long a spell would take to cast.
So, as long as you conform to the basic six elements, you're pretty much set.
Now, as far as involves your dragonman-guy-person-thing-y...
if it is a natural trait (Like, he can breath super-hot or super-cold breath) then it will work as is. But, if we are talking about magic, you will have to go with Enthalpy, the heat-changing subelement. if you made him talented in Enthalpy magic, you could have the same super-hot or super-cold effects.

The whole point of the tome is
a) get things a bit more organized
b) get people to think a bit more about the way they use magic, rather than just throw it around because it sounds good
c) cure the dreaded OMUS (Ominipotent Magic User Syndrome)
