  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

My wife and I have been married 8 years and we have been out of shape for all eight of them. When we got married, we just stopped doing anything. No exercise, eating whatever we wanted, on and on. SO, finally we have joined our local YMCA and are going to start exercising again.

I am concentrating on health after being diagnosed with high blood pressure. Plus, with a hsitory of heart disease on one side and a history of cancer on the other, I need to maintain health if I want to see my kids grow up. I would like to do a lot of cardio for heart health and then some nautilus to tone up, including swimming which does both.

My wife is just wanting to lose weight and she knows the health will come with that.

Does anyone have any links to websites with sample workouts and tips for healthier diets, etc. Besides WebMD. The Y has a personal trainer that will set us up with a routine, but just in case, I wanted to check here.

Thanks and God Bless

I know of no links to sites but just make sure you don't make the most common mistake in fitness. Do not try and strength train (build muscle) and tone muscle at the same time (lose weight). They are 2 diffrent systems that do not mix. If you try to do both at the same time your results will be limited to nothing in both catagorys. This is not to say you can't build for a few months then work on toning for a few months. I personally go in cycles with the type of workout I do so I maximize my results.

Bodybuilding.com has a work out guide that I have been trying to follow for the longest (read procrastination, lol). Check it out, it might be helpful..

http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/guide.htm

ETA: I know you are a beginner, but the link I posted does alot to explain what you need to do as far as diet, exercize, strength training, etc. It helps you build your own routine and provides a 12 wk program if you wish to follow theirs.
