I think that if someone wants to have a couple beers, or a glass of wine, it all depends on them - whether or not they feel they should...(I may add here that it is not okay to get drunk - as my brothers and sisters have noted, there are many scriotures to back that up, but there are many scriptures to say that to have
a drink is okay.)At my friend's bachelorette party (we are all Christians), we bought soem alcohol, but NOBODY got drunk..We just had a couple things to drink each....One of my friends felt guilty about it afterwards....She felt that for her it wasn't right, but mostly everyone else didn't feel that way....Nobody judged anyone, or felt badly towards another...
The only reason I say that it is up to each person whether or not to have a couple of beers is becasue the Bible actually does say that it is okay to drink - but NOT to get drunk.....I have three scriptures (although there are MANY more).....
PROV. 31:6 "Give strong drink to him who is perishing, and wine to those who are bitter of heart." Also - read before and after that.....
ROM. 14:21 "It is good neither to eat meat, nor drink wine nor do anything by which your brother stumbles or is offended or is made weak." This is saying that we should not do it if it will cause a brother to stumble - we shouldn't do it in their presence...For instacne I was an alcoholic right up to the minute I recieved salvation...I didnt want to be around alcohol for a while - I felt it could cause me to stumble...We need to be aware of the positions and tribulations that our brothers and sisters are currently in....
1 CORIN. 6:9-10 "Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be decieved. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor theives, nor covetous,
nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God."
Also, if you drink in moderation - and by this a mean like one at dinner, or two NOTHING THAT WILL GET YOU DRUNK (Some people think that moderation means, getting drunk every once in a while and not every day....This is not what I mean.) it does not mean that you will become a drunkard or an alcoholic, but if you feel that it will in your life, or that you may be weak to alcohol, I strongly suggest that you stay away from it...
That's my peso!
