  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Do any of you parents have a favourite author or book series that you like to read to your kids at bedtime?

We have a decent sized collection of books by an author named Sandra Boynton. My daughter loves her books, and she has a lot of them that are great for bedtime.

Which books are your kids into?

I was just going to say Sandra Boynton...I can recite "Red Hat Green Hat" by heart! What's that other one, with them all on the boat at night & it ends "Rock and rock and rock to sleep"? Andie loves that one, too.

She's got such a HUGE collection of books with various authors. I'm finding now that she's more into the story line, though...like I pulled out her Winnie the Pooh collection & we're reading like a chapter a night, & suprisingly (to me) she's really into it!!

Oh, another series/author that she really likes is Fiona Watt, she writes the "That's Not My....(fill in the blank with Dinosaur/Tractor/Dog etc). Those are "touchy feely" books & are really neat, it doesn't take long for the kids to catch on & be able to "read" it all by themselves!

That's called, "The Going-To-Bed Book"

VERY convenient title, if you ask me. LOL

Moose need to wear pyjamas that button up at the front.

For the littlest ones, of course, I can recite 'Snoozers' by heart.

My son is seven now and we are currently reading the Wizard of Oz series. We're on book five now and it is an enjoyable and precious time together. My two-year-old daughter likes to listen in every now and again when she's still awake.

We read a lot together so really when I read to my daughter it is whatever books she throws at me. We also like our 'My Mommy and Me Story Bible'

My 6 year old LOVES the Narnia books. We're on Book #6 ( The Silver Chair) and she asks for it every night.

But, they really don't care very much what we read, as long as we read something. Also, my 6 year old is starting to read to me more and more, so we've been sticking with things like Dr. Seuss here lately.

We have one called Imagine A Night with all kinds of cool looking surreal art...they LOVE that one. I'm going to find more abstract artsy type books for kids.

My tiny tot loves books, but "Goodnight Moon" tops the list. He will pick it out of a pile of his books and carry it over and hand it to me. He wants me to read it several times in a row even. I will finish and put it down, and he hands it back to me. He loves that book. Lol. :p
Mine both still love that book, too...and the Runaway Bunny...that's probably their absolute favorite.

My wife and I take turns putting our 5 yo son to bed. We always do bedtime stories. Typically she'll read all the fiction books, including old favourites. She's starting bits of Tolkien and CS Lewis.

I read the non-fiction books: airplanes, earth, space, science, world history, and of course, the Bible stories.

It's a good routine and works well for us. As far as the non-fiction books, we don't force it on him....it's what interests him, so we buy the books.

I have a three year old and a 1.5 year old, they both love Seuss books, the shorter ones for DD and the longer ones for DS.

We also have a few favorites from other people, 'Good night moon' of course, 'Ten in the bed', Also an alphabet set of books, cool 'cause DS could read it to DD before he learned to read (one word per page matched the picture)
