  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

My beagle died in February and since then my family has really been missing having a dog around... We're not jumping straight back in and getting a puppy any time soon, I think we're looking at August, when we get back from our family holiday....

One dog that we've been looking into is the Bedlington Terrier. My friend JD has one, and we think it's such a beautiful dog. His dog is really friendly and loves attention, and it looks like a sheep! So cute! However, JD said that Bedlingtons are usually not so friendly because they were originally bred as a hunting dog.

Does anyone know anything more? My Mum is seriously looking into these dogs, contacting breeders and stuff, so any tips or advice swould be appreciated! Thanks :)

Please adopt!!!! Millions of dogs are euthanized in shelters every year and thousands more are sitting there longing for homes!

Personally I don't know much about Bedlington's, but if I'm not mistaken they're the silly looking ones that get groomed to look like sheep with a big poof of hair on top of their heads....in which case are you prepared for the grooming this breed will require? Yes, hunting/herding dogs can be more work than some other breed. They have hundreds of years of doing a job bred into them. They have a drive to DO something and sometimes that's why they don't make good housepets (anxiety, destructive chewing, etc.).

If you are truly interested in this breed, then do some rescue searching. I guarantee that there are Bedlington's or Bedlingtin mixes in a rescue or shelter and if this is the breed you want, you should be willing to give an abandoned one a home, rather than getting a puppy. You'll be saving a life, saving money and saving headaches.
