Well it really depends on the Adventist Church you're attending since most Adventist Churches are so divided...Some believe you need at least some understanding of what the denomination teaches, some others believe is completely unnecessary, i tend to agree with the less traditional ones, we don't need to first be worthy to be accepted into G_d's family.. I believe if you really feel it is the right time go ahead... Id bet your parents are going to be extremely happy with your desicion, "are your parents Adventist? It really makes me happy to see someone as young as you are desiring to have a personal relationship with the saviour....

God bless you.

Hi ttreg. It does my heart good to see a young person wanting to be baptised.

Go ahead with the study, it is a good idea. I was nearly baptised in the SDA church. About 4 yrs ago I was wanting to be baptised, and because I liked the way the SDA church presents the gospel I decided to study with their pastor.

During the study I received a list containing their points of doctrine. One of the points of doctrine was to believe or acknowlge Ellen White as being a prophetess. I asked the pastor if it was mandatory that i do that and his reply was "It is probably best".

So I went home and thought about it. And after thinking about it for a while I came to the conclusion that no church should have anything in it's doctrine that isn't an essential point to one's salvation. So I wound up going to another church ,the First Assembly of God , to be baptised.

Ellen White may very well be a prophetess. In my opinion she probably is. But I just didn't feel right about having to acknowledge her or anyone else, other than Jesus, in making my baptismal vows to God

Had it not been for the one particular point of doctrine I probably would have been baptised in the SDA church. In my opinion, they present the gospel message very beautifully. But when you get deep into their doctrine they depart from the simplicity of the gospel.

You are generalizing, not all S.D.A Churches tell you that is best that you read her stuff and accept her as an inspired prophetess.... I got baptized in a traditional S.D.A Church and in a span of two months that i was there i only heard Ellen White name mentioned once... And that was a Traditional Adventist Church imagine a none traditional Evangelical Adventist Church, you prbably heard of them they dont care if members have Jewlery they tell you to come as you are..... They have departed from all types of legalism.

I am glad to hear that the work of reformation is alive and well and continuing it's work within the SDA church. IMO much reform was needed, and from what I've been reading here on this forum it seems to be taking place.

There seems to be a lot of variation as to what is being taught and expected from the members within the SDA church. This makes it all the more important for newcomers to ask questions and recieve training prior to becoming members.
