  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What you have pictured is what I just bought! So those are the better choice? I probably won't have time to actually make anything until Tuesday (start of my "weekend"), but I will let you know how I manage with these. Thanks... beading is so addictive... and fun! Thanks for your help!

Yeah, I find them easier to work with. I hope you have fun and your designs turn out lovely! :)

I made a net bracelet the other day on beading elastic. I wore it last night (to the Paul Colman Trio's last ever concert  ) and it broke! I musn't have tied the elastic well enough or it snapped or something - so I redid it on beading thread and put a clasp on it instead...

Anyone know how to make your knots secure on beading elastic?

Hey, I used to do a lot of beadloming with seed beads! I had a blast with it. Definitely, the hardest part was always ending it. I think the best way I found was to run the main beading line over-under / back-and-forth about 5-10 times to give a nice net effect and then tie it off. I would also run the line through the last row of beads about 3 times (or until my needle couldn't fit through any more) to help hold it in place. I usually just tied of the ends of my separator lines in one big overhand knot. I tried to get fancy one time and tie each pair together and then each pair of pairs together etc and after about 30 minutes had one big knot that wasn't any better than my other method.

When I made bracelets, I usually stictched the beadwork onto a leather backing (like suede) to make it more sturdy and comfortable. Then if you want to be really easy, you can just get some of that stick on velcro for a clasp. I also used the beadwork to decorate ornamental staffs too. That looked really cool.

One of these days I want to figure out how to do that hand net beading. It looks really cool. I saw someone doing a large necklace one time and I don't know how she did it. She was about half way done and had her piece sitting in a tray along with all of her different colors of seed beads mixed together. Her piece had about 20 different loose strings and she was just placing the beads onto the loose ends a few at a time and redirecting the loose ends to make the pattern she wanted. I guess it's like crocheting, you just have to know the pattern and everything falls in place.

Man... I have never seen that... I am silly enough to try it. You have any clue where I might find a pattern?

Have you ever done the loomless weaving? For narrow pieces it is much easier to manage since you have only two threads to deal with no matter if you are working with 4 or 10 beads across. I love this method, but it isn't very practical for patterns that are more than about 15 beads across, well, I haven't had luck with wider patterns....

Thanks - I'll give the superglue a try! I can't really describe what I mean by 'net bracelet' except to say I used a mixture of bugle and seed beads to make a pattern that looks like a fishing net - does that make sense? :)

That necklace sounds awesome! I don't know if I have that much patience though! :D

I think I have an idea what you are talking about... it might just be a difference in terminology. I might know an easier way to do it that won't have all the loose ends hanging. Let me look around and see what I can find online. I am certain I have some printed patterns though. Let me see...

I have a question for you beaders. I make my own bracelets because I have tiny wrists and no other bracelets really fit me besides my own.

Well, anyway, I am in charge of a bracelet making project for a big group of ladies at church. And I am wondering what the "average" length of most bracelets might be. I plan to give them all the beads they need for the longest size and they can leave out certain ones if they're like me and like smaller bracelets.

Thanks! I made the sample one 20 cm plus about 5mm. Now I'll try a shorter one and maybe a little longer one.

One other thing. We're going to use Stretch Magic to keep things simple as we only have a short time to work on it. Any tips for keeping that stuff from coming un-knotted? I'm just worried that someone's is going to snap as soon as they try it on. I personally don't use it much so am not really experienced. On the sample I made I have not even cut off the ends yet because I'm concerned that it might snap if I cut them short.

I don't use it much, but I do buy Stretch Magic for my daughter to make bracelets for herself and her friends, she puts superglue on the knots....

Thank you! I'm glad the crimps are working better for you! :)
I am having a blast with them! I am making pieces that I have only dreamed of before. I made a three strand bracelet of hematite hearts in two sizes and three other shapes of hematite beads... I love it! I would never have trusted that much weight to beading thread, being able to use tigertale is so wonderful! I love beads!

Does anyone do beading? Or jewelry making with beads? I love it! I only started about 18 months ago and I find it very relaxing - and very rewarding! It's so nice to be able to make pretty and unique gifts for friends and loved ones :)

Hello, I just started a new yahoo group on beading. Thought you might want to check it out and or join. No pressure though. Below I will copy and past the description and link to it. Remember, I just started it and I will be adding alot of information in the next couple of days. God Bless and Take care, Tamara

Two Beads Worth

Hello to all fellow beaders. I just started a new group in Yahoo. Below I will paste the groups description. Would love to have alot of people join that are interested.
