• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I was watching tv the other night, some show about disorders and they were talking on BDD and everything they said I can relate to. What do you do if you think you have BDD, besides going to a doctor and getting help, I tried asking for help a few times, nothing happened. I think I really just need to talk to someone about it.

Hey there:

Well. . .I've battled the disorder for over a decade. I take medication (celexa) which helps manage the episodes. They are less frequent. I just had one yesterday and cut my hair off. Hit me hard because I thought I had the darn thing beat. I'm back on my feet again today and regaining my strength.

I think you need to see a counselor who specializes in OCD behavior. You can find one on a sliding scale if you don't have insurance. State ususally offers behavioral services on a sliding scale. Talking to a counselor will help you understand what it is, what causes it, and what triggers it. You will also learn some tools on how to manage it and live with it. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. You can pm me if you like or just post here.

One thing I can tell you is that we can live with it and be healthy and happy despite our afflictions ("thorn in our side.")

God bless you,
Kim

What exactly is sliding scale?
Sliding scale means that the charge is based on income. If you have no income, your sessions will be free. If you are making a nominal amount of income, you may have to pay a token fee of $5.00 or $10.00.

God bless,
Kim
