I want to know which main characters you want to pair off in a epic battle and see who wins by votes from our peers in the vidio game world.

As for Sam versus Snake, my money's on Agent Fisher. He's got better moves and better gear, and the only weapon he needs to bring to a fight against Snake is a pin-up girl poster.
One that's been on my mind lately is Garret (from the Thief series) versus the assassin from the upcoming Assassin's Creed. Garret is a long-standing champion when it comes to stealth-based objectives, while the assassin appears to prefer a more mobile, cerebral approach to his craft.
Before I can start and poll on that pairing I will need to know the name of the assassin.
Ditto. I vote for Sam as well. Plus he has cooler interrogation techniques than Snake's "speak!".
And I'm sure both of them are capable of doing either with some degree of success. The purpose of the thread, however, is to see who would win in an epic battle. Both Garret and Altaïr have certain skills that allow them an advantage in combat. I think it'd be interesting to see which one's style would win the day.The character from Assassin's Creed is named Altaïr. But is it really fair? They have completely different purposes. Garret's is to steal stuff, and Altaïr's is to kill people.
Perhaps we should assume that when discussing which character would win we are speaking of the characters fighting in the equivalent of a live-action movie - i.e., no video game holdovers like the ability to absorb damage like a tank. Imagine if Snake were a real person and Sam Fisher were a real person, then decide which would win. With that in mind Dannager, WhirlwindMonk and I had an intense but ridiculous "argument" about Sam and Snake earlier today. Do we take mechanics of the games into account (such as MGS's allowing you to survive sustained machine gun fire) or just what you (the player) can do? Cause in that case, Snake would win hands down because MGS games are so over-the-top and Splinter Cell games are so realistic.

My vote: Ryu Hayabusa. Kratos isn't even a pirate, so there's not much of a contest there.I'd like to see Kratos and Ryu Hayabusa go at it.
