Yeah I would've liked to see Phish up here over a lot of these top 4. (I assume you meant Phish when talking about your favorite band) Don't think they would've made it far even if they had been on the list and people had heard their music. Phish is most definitely not everyone's cup of tea. I woulda voted for 'em though..... :D
You're definitely right - Phish is my favorite band. IMO they blow all these bands out of the water....although U2 and Floyd are close...not that close though!!
Yeah, I agree, they would not make it far. Most people have not heard of them. I actually HATED them for about 2 years, then all of a sudden I fell in love with their music. I honestly don't think they'll ever not be my favorite band. Another great thing about them is that I can listen to a whole bunch of their shows...and when I think I've heard it all, I will listen to an amazing song by them that I haven't heard in months, and fall in love with it again......and the cycle continues.

To anyone who doesn't know them - get yourself a copy of Junta or Billy Breathes. (IMO their 2 best albums, although opinions vary...some people who are more into pop music might be better off going with Hoist) If you hate them the first 30 times you listen to the cd, listen one more time, you will not regret it.

Remarkably enough, I've heard of Phish. I have some weird compilation CD that, on the whole, I don't like, and it has one Phish song on it. Can't say it's grown on me yet. Though when you mention thinking you've heard it all then hearing an amazing song ... I can completely relate to that! Just with U2, that is.

Speaking of U2, I'd like to draw attention to the fact they're currently winning by seven - 22-15. Go U2! Just a day to go ...

Which song was that Axver? It took 2 years for them to grow on me. BTW have you listened to any of the songs I recommended? :) :)

I listened to Gloria and I love it.......;)

Truly the mark of a great band!

Yeah, and U2 so hasn't pushed the boundaries, experimented, and completely changed their style. Two words: Achtung Baby.

I did not say that they had not :) I just both prefer the Beatles myself and think that they have had a greater influence on music and pop culture in general then U2. Is Achtung Baby a U2 song or album in which they did this? As far as I am aware, it means "Attention (in german) Baby", so does not seem to make much sense in itself.

Yeah I would have liked to see Led Zeppelin - my 2nd favorite band of all time. My favorite band is more or less unknown on these forums so I wouldnt expect them to be in the running. But whatever, I love this tournament, and props to redjosh for running and organizing it!! This U2 v. Beatles is the best one yet.

Amen!! Led Zepplin squash Aerosmith, The White Stripes and Nickleback, at least, with ease.

Led Zeppelin= possibly my favorite band ever. I REALLY like Iron Maiden too, but they get a little too repetitive to be better then Zep or even a few other groups.

I just got some Phish last night. They're not to bad! Not my favorite band though, they have to grow on me.

Yeah, they're just amazing! I got into them when I was 12, one of my friends gave me a copy of Led Zeppelin II and I listened to it like every day for a long time. Then when I got into Lord of the Rings, I found out that Zeppelin had a lot of Tolkien references, and I got back into Led Zeppelin after not really listening to them for about 8 years.

Sweet!! Which album/songs?? If they're live, let me know the dates.

Blackwasp there is a U2 song on my sound file it's my favourite, if you don't like it fine.

What kind of music do you like anyway?
I've either heard or downloaded U2's songs that are supposed to be great or one's that Axver has recommended in different threads. I really haven't heard anything that stood out to me. I realize that the Edge might me original in his guitar playing, but in my opinion, the songs just get repetitive. Bono might have a great voice, but it just doesn't do anything for me. I think the majority of musicians will honestly tell you that you cannot compare what U2 did for music with what the Beatles did (apparently christianforums doesn't feel this way ;) ).

In general, I like rock music. Most importantly, I like music that pushes the boundaries of what the general public expects and turns the musical world upside down. My favorite bands (in each era) are: The Beatles (whom I didn't care much for until lately as a result of arguing for them in CF), Rolling Stones, the Who, Pink Floyd, Bob Dylan, Cat Stevens, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Neil Young, a plethora of classic rock bands, Ozzy, Guns n Roses, Faith No More, Candlebox, Smashing Pumpkins, Alice in Chains, Stone Temple Pilots, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Seven Mary Three, Crash Test Dummies, Days of the New...the list just goes on.
