Sabbath is great, to a heavy metal fan, really havent done much for other music. U2 is more universally accessable....

OK, I can explain mine. I've grown up being more familiar with U2 and just thinking that the musicology of their songs is good technically and lyrically. There are definitely better bands in terms of sheer talent and stage presence, but rarely has a band's songs impacted me personally as much as U2's have. That's why I said way way back many posts ago the three simple words:

Gotta be U2.

I chose U2. They are lyrically uplifting, musically more advanced and have an all-around larger scope than Black Sabbath.

See, this is the problem with our battles. A band such as Black Sabbath is automatically classified as metal and discarded. So few people are familiar with Sabbath's material, that they automatically discard their credentials. Saying that U2 is better lyrically is far-fetched, unless you are not familiar with Sabbath's songs. Geezer Butler wrote some of the greatest lyrics ever. (This is one area where I believe that Sabbath was beyond Zeppelin, and U2) Ozzy's voice speaks for itself, and Tony Iommi reinvented the guitar with his darker sounds and wild blues solos. Saying that U2 is better live is hard to judge because they are given such greater publicity and are more recent. (However, Sabbath may be doing a Reunion at Ozzfest which would be amazing.)

^Au contraire, bw. I am very familiar with Black Sabbath's music. I was a total Sabbath-head in high school and spent many a warm summer night cruising around in the car with my buds blaring War Pigs, Fairies Wear Boots and Sweet Leaf. I still think U2's the better band.

Blackwasp, not everyone looks at music the same way you do. Don't assume that people would have to be unfamiliar with Black Sabbath to think U2's better; some of them have listened to both and sincerely think U2 is the better band. What's so hard to believe about that?

This tournament is not an objective indicator of a band's greatness. Not everyone voting is an experienced musician, or has even heard the band they're voting against. We're just doing it for fun. If you ask me, Phish is the best band of all time, I honestly think that. Are they going to win? No. But so what. Its just for fun, it doesnt mean anything, dont worry about it.

I haven't heard much of Black Sabbath, I know they were one of the best heavy metal bands of the 70's. They are heavy metal, It seems to be a little odd to compare such bands.

And I don't think there many bands out there that can do full world tours in stadiums with fifty to a hundred thousand people at every show. On the last stadium tour they had the biggest TV on the planet, and still is. There is no other band who has made their concerts more spectacular, and mind blowing..

I know, I know...I just think Sabbath deserves a close count in the end. And I guess it doesn't matter, but initially I thought that the point was to determine the best band, but in the end, it will most likely be the most popular band at CF that wins.
