Hi chaps
This is just to share how I often study the Bible. It is not the only method I use but is one I like because it combines prayer with reading.
I first start by choosing a passage. On this I use one of these three methods. If there is something that troubles me and I know a passage that could help me then I go to it. If not I go either with the daily passage or just choose one at random.
When I can, that usually means to be alone so not offend anybody, I go barefoot in remembrance of Moses before the burning bush and, most importantly, to remind myself that reading the Bible is listening to God.
I start with a short prayer, often the Veni Creator Spiritus (Come Creator Spirit) or the Our Father or one I just make on the spot.
Then I read the passage very, very slowly till I find something that hits my heart, so to speak. It could be a verse, a paragraph or even a single word.
Then I repeat that over and over again, often interrupting that thinking what the Scripture is meaning for me today.
Then I pray using that Scripture, transforming the Scripture into a prayer, which is usually pretty straigth forward.
Finally from that prayer I start a little dialogue with God with ends without words, if you know what I mean.
That ends the main part... The coming hours I use to ponder how I should change my life to what God is asking from me.
And that's in a nutshell
