what i generally hear about baptist is pretty good. more open style of sunday service, baptizing adults only etc. but what do you think about woship, speaking in tongues, healing and all this kind of things? do baptist believe in it, experience it? how is the general meaning on it?

i´m moving in another town, and i´m searching for a new church. i don´t like extremly charismatic churches - but are still believing in the things qouted above. so how are baptists, mennonites etc. like?

worship - (music?) i love the music we sing. the song are good and mean something always to me. you mostly stand around though tall and never do anything like clapping hands or jumping. i guess the spirit of the loud never moves upon our hearts cuz we aint dancing like david danced...(supose to be a lame attempt of a joke with a song. feel free to laugh if you want)

speaking in tongues - is that like i tell someone something about god in english, but he hears it as his native lanuage? ive heard that from left behind (movie). ive never seen it though, but if god can make everyone speak a different lanuage (tower of bable) i guess he could (also god can do anything).

healing - is in paster putting his hand on ppl and then fainting and bye bye sickness? sounds more like jesus. healing as in praying and god healing someone. yes. pray is a power weapon. ive heard and now ppl who have stories like that.

im not sure of alot of things. baptist sounds like the best one though and untell god "shakes" (something the camp seaker said) me then i guess i will continue.

btw: just a question, what non-denominational mean? your a chirstain but not a baptist or cathlic or something?

Hi ajuran! I was saved in a Charismatic church but left it after awhile and eventually ended up a Baptist, so I understand your questions.

Baptists (in majority) do not speak in tongues, nor believe that the gift of tongues even exists in our age. We believe that God can and does heal people through the prayer of His people. We do not believe that the gift of healing as possessed by the Apostles (like where they healed the blind, lame, lepers etc.) exists today. We believe that the sign gifts of the Spirit ended with the Apostles and the completion of God's revelation to us (the Bible).

Our reasons for not believing in the sign gifts of the Spirit are based 100% on Biblical understanding. I would suggest that you get together with a Baptist pastor and discuss the gifts and see if you can agree with what he tells you. If you went to a Baptist church for awhile (even still in your heart believing that these things exists) no one would kick you out or treat you like you're crazy. Instead you can find understanding and Biblical teaching. Talk to a Baptist pastor near you, don't let this doctrine (whether you believe it or not) prevent you from going to a Baptist church (I might add that any doctrine that keeps you from church is probably not good).

(The reason that I said Baptist in majority is because there are likely some Baptists somewhere who believe in tongues etc. Though I've never heard of them. I've met a few around here but I don't know if it is a personal belief or something that is taught in their church. My experience and understanding (which is not the final authority) would tell me that it is probably a personal thing, but who knows...)

I am a Messinainc, Charismatic Mennonite (Anabaptist)

And guess what there is more than one on CF now (I got the Shamashidim of my church to join!)

Don't let manifestation gifts be a stumbling block to you. Worship the L-rd where you are led to worship him. If things being "too" charismatic are not to your liking find a more conservative congregation. Dad will be there too!

and

Read your Bible
Pray
Witness
Sing unto the L-rd
Love your fellow man

You do that and you will have church no matter where you are and no matter what you are doing!

Blessings

Pastor George

I wouldn't call myself a Charismatic Baptist but I do believe in the gifts of the Spirit such as speaking in tongues. I don't have that gift but I do believe it is for today. Of course, I could be wrong but that's what I believe. Technically, I consider myself to be an Indpendent Fundamentalist Baptist.

I attend a Baptist church in the UK. It is not doctrinally cessationist (I am though) however as to this date I have not seen or heard anyone speaking in tongues in the church service (praise the LORD).

Hi ajuran! I was saved in a Charismatic church but left it after awhile and eventually ended up a Baptist, so I understand your questions.

This is scary... I too was saved out of another faith and began my new life in the Assemblies of God.

My reasons for eventually leaving were based, not so much on the issue of tongues (although that was a factor), but primarily on the doctrine of eternal security (which the AoG do not teach). Also, as I started to have serious Bible questions, I couldn't seem to find anyone who new anything beyond the basics and certain "bumper-sticker" theologies.

I also discovered that there are "Oneness Penetcostals" who deny the Trinity (T.D. Jakes is one, for example), yet nobody seemed to care. If a preacher could whip up a crowd, speak in tongues, etc. nobody seemed to be bothered by any heresy.

The doctrine of a "second blessing" I found insulting to Christ and the gospel as well.

The obsession with the Holy Spirit (whose role is to guide us to and teach us of Christ) was also a concern.

My 2 cents.

I didnt think that the gifts were still around today? Like the healing and speaking in tounges?

Has this been documented?

Thanks
They aren't. Though some believe that they are....

Has it been documented? No but you can always go to certain churches and see the "manifestation" for yourself. I would not recommend it though, it will break your heart.
